What do you think about Poland?

Poland is the glorious land of Winged Hussars, Kościuszko, and the "Jeszcze Polska nie zginęła" hymn, inhabited by brave, freedom-loving good Catholic (unlike that Czech atheist rabble) people. What's not to like?

I don't know what's wrong about "Czech atheist rabble", but I know Anglo-Americans are single-minded and narrow-minded in thinking about other nations.

What makes me laugh is also that so called Western Europeans complain about alleged "Eastern European" nationalism (and feel "superior" to them as they think that they are not nationalist), while practicing public nationalistic dickwaving and selfishness on their own on an even larger scale. :)

I experienced on various internet forums (for example TWC) how nationalistic and deprived of any self-criticism are for example English people.

(...) inhabited by (...) good Catholic (...) people. What's not to like?

Well, in Western Europe there is a lot not to like about that (apart from the fact that the entire stereotype of "Pole = Catholic" is not true).

There are much more "Religionphobes" and "Catholicphobes" in Western Europe than "Homophobes" elsewhere, for example.

Soccer doesn't count.

the level of discrimination catholics face in western europe is unbearable indeed.

In some western European countries it is forbidden to carry a cross publicly, if I'm correct. Is Britain among them? Or just France?

On the other hand, Muslim symbols are not forbidden (although discrimination of Muslims also started after all those terrorist attacks).

In France there is a so called "hostile model of separation of state and religion". I don't support this (in fact this = discrimination of religion).

The German model of separation of religion and state (so called "friendly model of separation") is good IMO, on the other hand.

On the other hand, I agree that in Poland still religion has too much influence on public live (althouth we also have separation).

We should learn from the German model - both those west from the Rhine and those east from the Oder.

in no western european country is it forbidden to carry a cross publically.
that sounds like eastern european propaganda, which made the fact that the display of religious symbols is prohibited in public schools in france into your little disturbed version of reality.

dont worry, you're on the internet now. you have access to facts here if you wish to use it this way.

You must be joking. Facts in the internet? Where?! Wikipedia? Did I miss something?

Poland is the glorious land of Winged Hussars, Kościuszko,

Regarding Kościuszko here is a pre-war (1938) movie about him (what's interesting is that it was originally made with English subtitles):

too bad they don't live in the West.

Depends on the point of view, didn't you know?

Did you read "Psychology and Live" by Philip G. Zimbardo?

In that book Zimbardo writes about one experiment - a child from Australia was asked to draw a map of the world.

And you know what? - he painted everything accurate, but reversed: Australia in the north and Europe in the south.

Geography is a relative thing. So why should we stick to the "official" version?

Serbia Number 3, (Serbia being 1 and Russia 2) not interesting, you made the great Serbia idea and now we have to go to war with them every 40 years

Central Europe you mean? :)

BTW - did history come to an end (it seems like you consider it a closed chapter?).

it's not. the ones who won at history are in the center, obviously.

Well, some young Australians think they are in the center, as Zimbardo shows.

Polish mothers are the best
they are better than the rest.

too bad they don't live in the West.

Well, babysitters (au pairs) from Poland are now popular in Britain as far as I know.

Many British don't have time or don't know how to bring up their children.

NedimNapoleon:

I don't know why you started to talk about Serbia, but there indeed was a Serbian Empire once upon a time:

There was a Serbian Empire but there was no Nacertanija, from wiki Poles helped Serbs get there idea, and the Serbs never completely ruled over Bosnia
Roots of the Greater Serbian ideology are often traced back to Serbian minister Ilija Garašanin's Načertanije (1844).[6]:3 Načertanije was influenced by "Conseils sur la conduite a suivre par la Serbie", a document written by Polish Prince Adam Czartoryski in 1843 and the revised version by Polish ambassador to Serbia, Franjo Zach, "Zach's Plan".[7]:91[8][9]:240 From the 1850s onward, this concept has had a significant influence on Serbian politics.
“ "A plan must be constructed which does not limit Serbia to her present borders, but endeavors to absorb all the Serbian people around her."[6]:3 ”

— Ilija Garašanin, Načertanije

The work claimed lands that were inhabited by Bulgarians, Macedonians, Albanians, Montenegrins, Bosnians, Hungarians and Croats as part of Greater Serbia.[6]:3 Garašanin's plan also includes methods of spreading Serbian influence in the claimed lands.[6]:3-4 He proposed ways to influence Croats and Slavic Muslims, who Garašanin regarded as "Serbs of Catholic faith" and "Serbs of Islamic faith".[6]:3 This plan was kept secret until 1967 and has been interpreted by some as a blueprint for Serbian national unification, with the primary concern of strengthening Serbia's position by inculcating Serbian and pro-Serbian national ideology in all surrounding peoples that are considered to be devoid of national consciousness.[6]:3-4[7]:91

Kosciuszko is awesome not because of the Polish revolt, but because he was one of the European officers who came to America to fight in our Revolution. He's the Polish von Steuben.

Wait, Poland is a country?

I could have sworn it was a suburb of Chicago.
