What do you think about Poland?

Wait, Poland is a country?

I could have sworn it was a suburb of Chicago.

Yeah, right... And Warsaw is in Indiana... Really.

Kosciuszko is awesome not because of the Polish revolt, but because he was one of the European officers who came to America to fight in our Revolution. He's the Polish von Steuben.

He is also awesome because of the amazing way in which Americans spell his surname :D:

I can hear (at 1:44) more or less "general Tadijous Kociusko" (as Poles would write down what he spells) instead of "Tadeusz Kościuszko":

And here is the proper spelling: taˈdɛuʂ kɔɕˈt͡ɕuʂkɔ (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/cc/Pl-Tadeusz_Kościuszko.ogg).

You are both wrong - Poland is a lake and is located in Manning, British Columbia:

It couldn't be. For one, Chicago isn't in Eastern Europe.

Well, with the amount of people from North Africa here, you could of fooled me.

Yeah, Eastern Europe is well known for having large amount of North African population. :D

But seriously:

Yay! This video says we are in C E N T R A L Europe. :)

No, it's not. It's a North African country. We've had this discussion a bazillion times before.

I amend my previous statement.

Poland is an Eastern European country located in Northern Africa.

More topical, I find Poland to be a nice enough place, though it does have a geographically challenged populace.

Poland is an Eastern European country.

Depends how you divide Europe:

I amend my previous statement.

Poland is an Eastern European lake located in Northern Africa.

Now correct.

And Warsaw is even nicknamed "Lake City" so this fits well: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warsaw,_Indiana

Warsaw is also known as the "orthopedic Capital of the World" (citation needed) according to this link. Yay! :)

What do you think about Poland?

Seems nice enough.

Thanks. But nice enough... for what?

And how can there be "Latin America" if they don't speak Latin?

By the way - now, they don't speak Latin, but back in 17th century they did:

Daniel Defoe (1659 - 1731), who happened to travel across Poland, wrote:

"Who only knows Latin can go across the whole Poland from one side to the other one just like he was at his own home, just like he was born there. So great happiness! I wish a traveler in England could travel without knowing any other language than Latin!"

He originally wrote that in Latin, this is translation.

====================================

I'll explain - "Latin Europe" is those influenced more by Roman culture.

The other part of Europe (Eastern) was influenced more by Byzantine / Greek culture.

See the division of Christianity for example. Orthodox (Eastern) Christianity in the East and Latin (Western) Christianity in the West.

Was Poland Orthodox Christianity? No. When Poland was baptised, it adopted Latin / Western Christianity (Latin Rite).

Pulaski had much more influence in America.. Kosciuszko had much more influence in Poland.. of course imo

Yeah but "Latin Europe" is mainly from "Latin Christianity" ("Latin Rite").

As well as from Roman influences more important than Byzantine / Greek ones.

OK - "Latin Europe" is what you, there in the West, call "Western Civilization" - more or less.

And actually Latin was lingua franca in what is called "Latin Europe" for a very long time (Middle Ages mainly).

Uh, no. "Latin Europe" basically corresponds with "Latin (Romance) language speaking Europe."

According to what you just said, you're basically leaving out all of Germanic Europe and North America from "Western Civilization."

And what "Roman influences" does Poland have?

Christianity is certainly of non-Roman origin, and Romans did not bring Christianity to Poland, so i don't really see the connection.

Poland was much better in the middle ages when it wasn't the butt of every joke.
