What is Firaxis up to? Civ VI looms in the horizon:

The dancing game wasn't that bad, and it was pretty much required to get good equipment and hints on where the evil Baron Raymondo is.

At times, it did get somewhat repetitive, though. Dueling could too, I always picked the rapier and quick-stabbed my way to success.

I've actually not played the remake, only heard the criticism  Still, it would be nice if a sequel wasn't too much Disney. Not sure why I skipped the remake. 9 years old now...

Interesting. I did better defensively with the cutlass.

I had to play a more balanced dueling game until I received one of the two sword upgrades, but after that point the rapier quick-thrust landed a hit in less than one time unit, whereas a standard rapier thrust took at least 1 time unit and a powerful strike (high or low) took 2 time units. But when you can always poke the target back 1 space in less time than it took for them to strike you no matter the blade or maneuver, the duels became trivially easy. The only time you had to worry was when your opponent wielded a rapier and could land a strike as quickly as you could.

Then again, that's probably the MoO player in me talking. ;)

Still, the iPad certainly limits replayability. I'm bored crapless of Infinity Blade II already, and I only got the damn thing less than two weeks ago

The problem there isn't the platform, it's the game. Try... hmm... Eclipse? Every time the Eridani go into bankruptcy you could swip wildly at the screen, if that's the sort of thing that *really* thrills you.

I was looking at other threads and felt left out, as I haven't gratuitously and cattily sniped at anyone for a few days.

Seriously though: While I've yet to see an iPad action game that didn't need the "action," and often "game" in scare-quotes, I've found the iPad great for ported boardgames or other serious-but-casual titles like, say, King of Dragon Pass.

I quite enjoy chess on the iPad. I'm not really a fan of any non-strategy games in general, to be honest. I hate Angry Birds, for example.

Those interested in what Firaxis is doing should listen to the latest Polycast episode, featuring Ed Beach and Dennis Shirk. There's the Civ5 Fall Patch for starters, but they seemed to suggest that there might be some other stuff alongside it.

I doubt there should be a Civ VI. By now the series is already an overkill. Unlike other strategy games series (such as EU) the Civ one stopped being a clear improvement over the last title at around CivII. The rest of the titles had both stronger and weaker points than the previous title(s) in my view.

They could always make a new Civ that didn't suck. That would be nice.

I think they should go back to 2d for startes so to enable massively epic games. If done nice, it does not even need to look worse than 3d, in fact IMO it can have a more attractive look. For when you look on continents from a bird perspective - they rather look 2d. Units could be made 3d so get a little action - like in Sacred.
But I am afraid that this is one of those things where the gaming industry is more dogmatic than the Pope.

Just to make sure it's clear: I'm talking about games that are, so far as strategy goes, at least as good as Civ and generally better. By boardgames I mean things like Agricola, not Monopoly. Angry Birds is one of those "games" needing the quotes.

They could take away turns, and give it "just one more frame" as a catch phrase.

I want a 'quality over quantity' attitude with each new Civ game. For example, even if you literally only have 12 Civs to choose from (Vanilla version that is), I'd strongly prefer that over a bunch of Civs/leaders/whatever but the game flat sucks.

Even after two expansions Civ V still doesn't have capitulation, a key feature that made Civ IV a hell of a lot of fun IMO. Now that Fireaxis knows everyone loves RFC, they should just flat make something like that themselves instead of depending on Rhye, or better yet pay him so he'll actually get it done.

I was not a fan of RFC. One of the parts I enjoy about civ is that I can do whatever I want in the game. With RFC, I'm punished for going out of a predetermined geographic area, I'm penalized when an artificial mechanic overrides my hard work, and so on. It feels less like I'm playing a game and more like I'm struggling against the code.
While RFC definitely is an impressive piece of code, Revolutions does the job far, far better for a conventional civ game.

It'd be awesome if they were busy remaking Alpha Centauri

You just read my mind.

Might be a coincidence, but I see many people (myself included) picking up that game again. I played at in 1999 and 2000 and only now in 2013 I'm replaying it. As for my sake, the renewed interest in Alpha Centauri was sparked after discussing the game with a friend.

If they were to do that, I hope they'll keep the depth of the story-line and quotes. Alpha Centauri should be a separate franchise and not just Civ in Space.

I tried to play Alpha Centauri, but either my friends disk was too scratched to work or my laptop's drivers just aren't compatible with a game that old. :(
Given how good a job Firaxis did with XCOM I feel they could do an admirable job with Alpha Centauri.

GOG is your friend, Ajidica! No DRM, digital download, includes Alien Crossfire, $5.99!

The Steam addict in me looks at the $5.99 number and think "Hmmm. If I wait I can get it on sale for $3.00."

I doubt I'll get it though. I am really fussy when it comes to user interfaces and given how old the game is I think I'll spend too much time fighting the UI. (For example, as much as I wanted to play the original Fallout, the horrendous UI made it not fun.)

It's on GOG (complete with expansion, doesn't say in the description) for 6 bucks. Works perfectly fine on my Intel Core 2.80 Ghz running on Windows 7, bought digitally.
I hope they'll ever make a modern version of this game with a smarter AI (especially what concerns naval battles) and some tweaks in the gameplay (it is fine, but why wasn't the 'alert when finished production' set on by default in the interface options menu? Makes little sense).

EDIT: You've missed (as did I) the early 2013 sale. In January you could have got it for 3 bucks.
EDIT2: Let's hope Firaxis would ever get their hands on the franchise.

Honestly RFC would have been better were it not for the fact that Civilizations collapse so easily. I obviously exaggerated when I said everyone likes RFC but it's probably the single most popular mod in the civ series, so I don't see why they are making no attempt to continue it.
