What is happening to the NESes?!

If you compare these times to rtor2 time and before...we are a bit overloaded. Usually there were about three or four nes's going at the same time at the most.

and the damn commies, corrupting our children!

Now it appears we have a whole bunch of nes' now :D

Oh God....

I had the same feeling as das....
and yes I cannot mod I'm too lazy for it. I found I ma good with rules, maps sometimes, keeping up the game - also. But the updates just kill me. I'll try to fix this in the near future. I shall start by re-openning my NEssos game if anyone is still interested...

Oh and I have a great idea for a MEdieval NES if anyone is interested. Here:

Medieval NES

I will try to make a medieval NES. The game might be a little complicated as it will try to include all the parts of the Medieval life that we wanted: ruling an estate, building and besieging castles, noble hierarchy, heraldic, tournaments, crusades and constant battle for survival between nobles in Europe. All of that will be in this NES and it is up to you which part you make your primary occupation.

Every player starts with a territory that contains his own castle. That territory can be taken away only with the player’s death or if the player’s capital (main castle) is moved. Other parts of the map are subdivided into regions. Each region contains something of importance – a village, small fortification, bridge, trading post, monastery etc. Each region brings different sorts of wealth and resources to its owner. The more the player owns the greater his responsibilities, resources, and fame are. Certain titles can only be awarded to Lords that control great territories.

Home Castle
Each player starts with a “home castle” in a province of his choosing. Upon choosing the player will be presented with a map that shows the initial settlements and the first castle tower. The game starts in 1100 AD so the players have a lot of time in front of them to develop and upgrade their home castle.
All players wealth, unoccupied warriors, important visitors are located in his primary castle. Once that is taken the player looses a lot of his influence. However taking it will not be that easy.
Every player can improve his castle. With time more and more defensive fortifications and buildings are available to the Lords. Pieces of defence are added to existing ones like Lego blocks. Once you have the money and food to feed the workers you can order to begin construction. The works will be done in specified time and your castle map updated. The bigger the castle is the more time and men it will take to capture it, but it may require occasional upkeep. The list of defensive fortifications is shown below.

Map of European part
The game takes place in the wonderful Rein region – border of German and French civilizations. The map shows important roads, rivers, settlements and other sources of income for nobles. Armies and control of the regions are shown as well.

Crusader Map
1100 AD is roughly after the time of the first Crusade and thus many of the Crusader Kingdoms are alive and may need your help. The events in the Middle East are unlikely to develop according to history so have your armies at the ready. You never know when another Pope calls a Crusade. Middle Eastern map is played in the same manner as the European map. However as a general rule the population and neighbouring rulers are much more hostile. If you send your army to the Middle East you must specify the path an army should take there. Depending on this path and the will of One and the only mighty God your armies reach Middle East in tact, not in tact or not at all.

Tournament
Tournaments and duels can be organised by any nobles, above all including the King. Tournaments can be fought for 3 reasons: matter of honour (a noble offended the other and demands a compensation), prise (tournament organiser pays the price to the tournament winner) and solving disputes (where the winner wins the disputed object or matter).
Each duel happens in three sessions. Although it makes no difference for gameplay you can think of them as three separate challenges: pike duel on horses, duel in all arms, duel on swords only. The outcome of each duel is determined by the 2 dice and one more factor. This factor is equipment. Each Lord can supply a knight with equipment that raises his chances in a tournament. Equipment raises the minimum throw of a dice to 1,2 or 3 points respectively of the level of equipment. After each round the difference between the scores is subtracted from the losers HP. Each knight has 10 HP in the beginning of tournament. Good fighting equipment is significant as it increases the chances of survival for your knights. Knight with more wins in rounds (i.e. 2 or 3) wins the duel and moves on. Death of a knight in a duel is a big blow to prestige and some knight may refuse to fight with a low HP. From time to time great knights might offer their services to you. Equipment is valid for 1 tournament and one knight only.
Tournament Equipment – 50 gp
Masters Equipment – 110 gp
Champions Equipment – 250 gp
It is possible to organise championships in more than one way for example with 5 different challenges or for different troops. Keep in mind that all outcomes involve a dice.

Title, Fame and Coat of Arms
….makes you. You are the Lord of your land, the unquestionable ruler of your subjects. Your banners carry your fame that you earn through good and honourable or cunning and clever deeds. Your title allows you to talk to higher nobles freer and acquire more and more noble vassals. Your title is how people should treat you. Your fame determines how good of a Lord you are. If your knights are victorious on the field and in tournaments, your lands great and flourishing, your word is strong and vengeance is shift then you can be the Lord of Lords leading great armies and doing great things not only for your estate, but for your whole nation. Fame is also called Prestige.
There are 15 levels of Fame. There are so many levels because Fame shifts up and down a lot depending on the outcome of battles, duels, your actions and those of your men.
Levels of Fame:
Miserable,

Your Heraldic is your coat of arms, your banners.
I will give you a template to design your coat of arms. It is not a requirement to have one, but those who make it will get a bonus. There are two conditions. The first one is that you cannot copy and paste the whole coat of arms. You can combine a number of symbols from two or more, but no direct copying. The second condition is that all symbols and some colours and shapes on your coat of arms must have a meaning. I say again that having one is not a requirement, but the game will be a lot cooler if you make one.

Hierarchic System:
There are a number of heraldic titles available to players. Each title can only be given by a higher noble with a possible vassalization. Here are the levels:
Chevalier, Baronet, Baron, Viscount, Count, Duke, Prince, King
Duke and above are related to King through family.

Vassalisation
Vassalization is not a very well defined concept. In general it means that the Lord takes care of one entity and is supposed to protect it. The vassal on the other hand should carry out the commands of its master. This is the theory. In practice there are many different forms of vassalization and relations between vassals and masters. You are free to choose your own and hope that NPCs like it.

Resources and the map
Resources are allocated to regions on the map. Normally one for each. You gain them every turn you control a region.

Locations:
Tower – fortification
Settlement, Village, Town, Fairs, Bridge, Road, Church, Market, Fortress, Monastery, Bastion, Abbey, Port, Tower

Vine Field

Resources
Gold – gold is everything. Gold is used to pay your soldiers, your workers working on castle modifications, bribe officials, please the king and anything else….

Food – used to feed common people, warriors and others in time of war and peace alike. Casle workers for the most.

Victuals – (yastva) – used to please kings, your fellow knights and important visitors to your castle.

Mobilization Pool – how much youcan mobilize. Depends on the number of settlements you control.

Army
Army consists of several types of soldiers, some better at different tasks. You can split your army into several smaller forces each no less than 100 men. Armies travel 8-10 regions per turn. Small battles between armies are resolved automatically, bigger ones are left for the players to demonstrate their skills as generals. Armies need to be fed with 100 of food per 100 men, with the exception of knights that consume victuals. Men can be recruited into the army from the Mobilization pool available by paying gold for weapons.

Normal Army
Pikemen, Swordsmen, Archers, Arbaletchiki, Alebarbshiki, Knights, Peasants
Only 6 types of soldiers can e recruited into the army with peasants joining it in extreme cases.

Some special units may be available to players during the game and these cannot e recruited.
Special Units:
Crusaders, European Mercenaries, Saracens,

Besieging a caste
You can besiege a castle of the enemy player at any time with your army if your army is greater than that of the enemy. You can buy siege equipment with gold that will be available to you by the time you want to storm the castle. Very few things will be done without gold. Storming a castle is done in the same way as the battle i.e. on a special map.
If you choose to keep the blockade then the castle survives as long as it is able to feed its defenders. It can happen if the besieged player still controls enough of food resources even though if they are not linked to his home region. Once there are no food resources left in castle its army will begin to disintegrate and die of hunger every turn.

This fails to represent the medieval military, I think...

During the middle ages, swordsmen were rather rare, only foot knights usualy used two-handed swords or poleaxes. Most of the men-at-arms were armed with spears and shields, which they could use to form shield walls, the sword was usualy only for self protection if the lines broke, or for something else suitable. Also, knights were not numerous, and there were often other forms of cavalry. So I would put the following units: Men-at-arms, crossbowman, bowman, knight, non-chivarlic cavalry, foot knights (maybe knights could be dismounted), pikemen, halbieldier (poleaxeman).

The Muslim armies should have; Camels (good against heavy cav. in deserts), light cavalry or desert cavalry (also armed with a bow), armoured heavy cavalry, saracen infantry, light infantry (armed with javelins and slashing sword), archers, crossbowmen, .... The Byzantine army; Byzantine heavy infantry, kataphraktoi (ultra-mega heavy cavalry), pikemen, archers, crossbowmen, prononai allagion (medium cavalry)....

Anyway, I think it should be whole Europe and large part of the middle east...

Nope!

I welcome positive comments, thank you guys!

Emu that had me wondering for a moment :mischief: ;)

lol, you have a problem with updates....so you want THAT to be your nes?

I would join of course ;)

Azale actually I will give this set of rules and some help to a mod that will want to mod this :).
I have Nessos on my hands and I will restart it. I did some more work on the medieval thing since I wrote the rules above. If people are interested this NES will start. Anyway this is more of an attempt to combine the good stuff about medieval NES together than a preview.... I'm yet to figure out what to do with it...

I too would join and give it another try ... however atm I feel as if I jinx things ... I join and then it dies ...

I would expect you (any mod) to inform the players if you (the mod) are getting bored instead of leaving us all hanging with our arses bared eagerly waiting for the feather ...

Some of the players put a lot of energy into character development and the AIMed behind the play strategizing is unbelievable complex ...

So don't start anything too complicated as it will end in tears for some and anger in others ...

Too complicated...I might wanna join,if I didn't have to read and abide by a novel.

I will simplify it a bit. You do realise this is largely a board game due to its map?

Im in the Superhero one... but we cant design our own heroes/villians? Thats a bit of a downer still sounds good.

I would mod if i had more time... not sure if im any good or notmy only attempt failed through lack of players... i have a feeling people arnt overly into fantasy and i honestly dont think my updating was good enough still i have many ideas... like the revers colonisation thing where the nations of Australia and the Native Americans South and north discovered and colonised europe instead of the way it actually happened....
