Thread is just for fun :D
These are the ones i know:
In English it is Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis and has 45 letters.
In Spanish: superextraordinarísimo and has 22 letters
In Polish: konstantynopolitańczykówianeczka and has 32 letters.
In Maori: Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateapokaiwhenuakitanatahu and has 85 letters. (could technically be an english word as well).

And for your information, no i did not just make them up, and yes i did have to copy from another website as there would be no possible way i'd be able to spell it.

You know, you could probably translate that English word into Spanish, all the cognates exist.

Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis was a word created to be the longest word. I don't think it's ever been used other than to say "this is longest word in English and it decribes something that doesn't happen."

According to your own link

a factitious word alleged to mean 'a lung disease caused by the inhalation of very fine silica dust causing inflammation in the lungs. Occurring chiefly as an instance of a very long word."[1]. It was coined to serve as the longest English word and is the longest word ever to appear in an English language dictionary. .... A condition meeting the word's definition is normally called silicosis.

I mean, it's a word and all, but it's cheating!

:( I'll always have a special place in my heart for SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPEALIDOCIOUS.

Damnit you beat me to it!

Although these names I remember from grade school

Rikitikitembonosarembocharibariruchipitberipimbo

and

Eddie Coochicamatosaneratosanokasamakamawhackybrown

First one was a story second one is a song, both were kids whos names were so long they drowned before the word could be passed up that they were drowning. :p Such things children learn. I bet their next kids name will be "Moe" or "Ted"

The longest French word is "anticonstitutionnellement", which means "anti-constitutionally" and is only 25 letters long.

German is "Lebensmittelzuschusseinstellungskommissionsvorsitzender" or chairman of the commission for the introduction of food supply rationing, but since you can create infinitely long words in German, it doesn't really count.

Although it is a forbbiden word forgotten ages ago because those who speak it suddenly have their hearts explode and brains melt simultaneously to speaking the last syllable. So needless to say don't try to say this word :)

I speak Chinese. In Chinese, there are no words, merely characters. There's no such thing as a longest character. It's like one unit of information.

You could do most difficult to write? I always have a hard time with "love" though my limited character knowledge probably makes that sound silly.

If you need me to write "mountain" or "tree" I can do it pretty well though!

No one is currently studying Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis in any modern research lab. It's the next Dihydroxy Oxide.
