What Places can you Not go, and Doubt you will in your lifetime?

Exactly. I would stick out like a sore thumb in Egypt, since I'm white, as would Asians, blacks, and many Latin Americans (although some could probably pass as local). In addition, a woman who isn't veiled would stand out in terms of dress.

So if you have a phenotype that enables you to pass as a local, a good knowledge of Arabic, and you're willing to dress like an Egyptian, you probably wouldn't have any trouble.
Just FYI, I am a very obviously white european and I went to Egypt before the Arab Spring. The militarisation of the holiday resorts was something quite obvious, with this particular officer, who I took to be quite senior, seemed to be trying to hide a rather large AK-47 (?) under a rather small t shirt. However it was also quite clear that they were there to protect me against the people who lived there, so it felt like it was a distinct advantage to stick out like a sore thumb.

My Mums been back to Egypt since el-Sisi seized power (not something I'd do, but shes an adult, she gets to make her own choices) without any problems. She didn't go to Cairo but more because she didn't like it much than worries. Mostly spent time in Luxor and Aswan and was able to wander around them independently.

I was in Cairo a couple years ago just for a day, I had a really long layover with Egypt Air. So, I went around the city some but it wasn’t enough time to get a feel for it.

Iran and Turkey. Would be cool to tour WW2 battlefields in Russia but doubt that'll ever happen either.

That's cool to know. I'd love to go.

I think the entire Middle East/North Africa/Central Asia Islamic region is more hostile towards westerners now than it was years ago. Afghanistan and Iran used to be major destinations for white hippies in the 60s and early 70s.

Dates? Figs? I’m not an expert on Central Asian agriculture, help me out!

I’m staying pretty much out of everywhere, mostly for the fact I don’t have much interest in international travel.

"Afgan Hash"

Ah, corned beef.
