What sounds better: Czechia or Bohemia?

What should the short name of the Czech Republic be called?

i like the sound of Czechia [assuming its pronounced checkia].

is there a different language or ethnicity in Moravia?

No. Moravians are the same nation, they just stick to the traditions more then Bohemian Czechs. There are regional dialects too.

Czechia is the better of the two, I guess, though Silesia is nicer sounding than Czechia, Bohemia, or Moravia. I don't suppose that would work, though.

...and yes, I should have put Winnerland in the poll. :(

Can anybody find that picture (I think it was Perfection's) of the Earth in the future? The Earth was divided up between Curt, Perf. Simon, and other people, and Winner had a tiny little dot in Europe called "Winner's hideaway" or something like that.

Czech Republic.. it wouldn't be fair for the other Czechs to call it only Bohemia. Especially since there is no historical reason for it (or it would be Bohemia & Monravia in that case.. Böhmen und Mähren).

This wouldn't be posible, because the german wwii protectorate had this name.

Strange that only English has this naming problem. It is Tschechien/Tschechei in German, Tchéquie in French. Czechia should be used in similarity with this. It sounds quite poetic to me. (čechie) ;) And it is the official stance of our forign ministry. I hate that "CZECH" stripe which our ice hockey players wear. Czechland even sounds ugly.

An odd note re: Tschechien/die Tschechei - in German class I was taught that Tschechien was the prefered form, because die Tschechei had unpleasant Nazi era connotations. However, when I met Czech exchange students in Germany they called their homeland die Tschechei. :crazyeye:
