So, I recently finished the medical study I was doing, and got a 3,000 check. I know I have to lop off 1,000 of that to pay outstanding bills, rent, my mom back for some things, etc etc.

That leaves me with 2 grand. My other job has finally started to pay off, so I dont need this money to eat or anything. So what do I do? I have a few ideas, but I'm open to others.

1) Do nothing. Save the money, and either invest it, or use it for living expenses when I do my DC internship from March-June (since its unlikely I'll get paid for that)

2) Save some, use the rest towards getting a new drumset (mine is very old and not very professional)

3) Save some, use the rest for travel sometime this summer. It prob. isn't enough for me to go overseas, but I could travel very well anywhere in the US or Canada.

4) save some, upgrade the ol' apartment. I can't move out yet, but with the money, I could buy some furnature, paint the place, upgrade my stuff, etc.

Background: I am 20 years old, college student.

I'm starting a poll, but im open to other ideas. I'm leaning towards number 2

Invest in my education or visit me for good times. :goodjob:

If you don't know you'll get money during the spring, I'd go for number 1, but if you think you could get people to bribe you, then number 2 may be your best bet, if you need the drums.

If you don't need either, number 4, but on things you can definitely take with you to a new place.

Third option sounds sweet, but sometimes you gotta sacrifice.

The PAC sounds great. Just don't pull a Brownback or a Vilsack.

In other words, stop abusing internet forums for your own financial hilarity. :mischief:

As boring as it sounds, #1 is probably the most responsible choice.

Pull a Bender, and buy 2,000 $1 hookerbots or 1 $2,000 hookerbot.

Seriously, though, just save it. Maybe go out for one night of hard core drinking, but that shouldn't cost that much. Just save it, you'll thank yourself later.

Play the stock market. Buy stock in the company that makes the drumsets you want.

I did that with AMD, and ended up making enough in a year to buy 2 of any computer i wanted.

If you won't touch it for a long time, I suggest VWO.

It's my personal favorite.

Is it worth investing that small amount of money, given all the comissions I'd have to pay? I was thinking something like a CD

How much did you invest initially? If you came out with a 10% gain, that's not very impressive. If, on the other hand, you started by investing $2, that's hella impressive.

I have to change my answer from what I gave on #fiftychat. I didn't realize your drum set was truly lacking. Option 2 it is, get yourself a set of drums a pro would feel proud to bang on.

Hookers and cocaine.

How much do drums cost?
Dude, Downtown's Mormon, which means he's incapable of having fun otuside of wholesome arts & crafts such as building a giant model of Brigham Young and his 51 wives out of 2,035,200 toothpicks.

I'd have to invest around 1000-1200 bucks to fully upgrade my kit. I need all new hardware (piccalo Snare, new hardwood, toms, cymbals, etc), plus carrying cases for everything. Drumsets run from 400-4000.

I'd say either make a small investment with it or save it and maybe use a little bit here and there for fun.

Since drumming is part of your livlihood IIRC (and probably you can much personal satisfaction from it) I'd say #2.

Could you build a drum set out of toothpicks?

Probably not, but he could make a killer toothpick bridge and keep the boxcutter that he'd use to make it. That's always useful.

I suppose if you needed the drums to improve your play, then go for it. I'd say the PAC, but only if you promised to put on a commercial with scary music.
