What video games have you been playing? ΚΔ (24)? More like ΚΔ,Ζ,ΤΞΕ!

It is an RPG in the sense that it forces you to play as a a drunk as I remember it, most adventures allow you a bit more control of your play style...

It is reminiscent of old adventures in that you have to investigate the scenery for items to interact with iirc.

Well it forces you to START as a drunk. What you can become is up to you (if in the constraints of the game).
Really a RPG in the fundamental meaning though, the entire game is all about "playing a role". Usually I don't like games without fighting system, but this one was really special. Very original and I loved how each aspect of your psyche was a character and how well done these aspects adhered to the concept they represent.

Maybe I should give it another go, I gave up when my only option seemed to be to sleep in a dumpster to progress game time, from evening to morning...
You only have to sleep in a dumpster if you can't grab enough money to pay for the room.
The game happens entirely in a very small area, but is extremely dense in this area. There is very little "forced" paths and an ungodly amount of possibilities to explore (many of them being exclusive to some failed check, or successful check, or some action taken, or something visited, etc.). It's the kind of game where you should just "go with the flow" and try to invest the main character.

They could at least give the option of spending the night roaming the street, or sleep on a bench, I guess I'm not used to games without a day/night cycle anymore.

Please use spoilers :) I am only at the very start (11 AM).

Are there settings in the game, for difficulty? Particularly wondering about what it takes to achieve something with dialogue. Anyway, my character started with physical state of 1, so I did manage to die while trying to reach for the tie :p But now he has physical 2, after the first upgrade.

Ah, Disco Elysium... I proudly wear my "Most Laughable Centrist" achievement.

I recall you had to gather tare to make money.😀

There is no real "difficulty" concept. You can "lose" the game in some place by making a bad decision (and dying/getting arrested/whatever), but you can't really "get stuck".
One of the unique approach of this game is that "failure" and "success" are very relative and both can open options. In fact, sometimes a success is actually detrimental, due to what it means in game term : skill is about how strong an aspect of your psyche is, but it being strong or weak comes each time with good and bad. For example, authority is about how you can impress people and make them obey, so a weak authority means you feel inadequate and have a hard time pushing people about. But a strong one means you get the craving of enforcing your will, which can push you going idiotic ways to assert yourself on others. Or the "knowledge" aspect can give you lots of informations, but following it too blindly will end up making you act like an insufferable know-it-all, who is lost on trivia and details but misses the forest for the trees. The one about having fun makes you more relatable and improve the effect of substances, but gives you craving to become a drunk and drugs addicts. Etc., etc.

It's a game where you shouldn't be afraid of failure or ridicule.

I like the atmosphere, but it was (at least up to now, I am at around 3 PM in the first day) misleading to link this to games like Shadowrun, which are very clearly rpgs. This would have been at home with late 90s point n click adventures. And Cuno would be at home with those deformed and mischievous kids in the cemetery in Sanitarium.
I am surprised people even talk to the character, with his fixed drunk expression and his one shoe.

I quite enjoyed sanitarum but it has no rpg features. You do not roleplay or develop your character there.
RPG where its possible to not fight are rare and there are even more rare RPGs where you cannot fight.
But this doesnt make adventure games from them. I really loved Disco Elysium, for me its 10/10 rpg.
Another great one is Pentiment 9/10.
I finished Gamedec. Thats 7/10. It has great scifi cyberpunk story but not well delivered through gameplay.

I lean more towards being sympathetic to the (non-criminal) dock workers. But up to now I was afraid of saying that too openly in the game (as I am unsure as to whether it locks some of your options). I mean I would not say it to clearly fascist or royalist or super-rich characters.

Picked up the DLC for Factorio and trying to tweek up a modded Minecraft to make it a mix of Factorio/Satisfactory and Stardew Valley using MineColonies, Create (and its addons), Immersive Enginnering, Mekanism, Gregtech, Farmer’s Delight and Croptopia.

The game is not mean with content. It will not lock you out of something without giving you something great in return.

Also, talk with people about Revachol, its legal status, and that of its law enforcement the Revecheol Citizens Militia that the detective is a member of. What does it even mean to be a criminal or law enforcer in such a place?

Recent Sims 4 updates have broken the game if I have mods enabled (despite my updating the potentially problematic ones like MCC), so I've been trying to play vanilla and vividly remembering why I don't.

You might like Satellite Reign.
Hey, it says it works on Linu- THIRTY DOLLARS!?!

Why are vidjagames so expensive these days?
