...I need to find my Civ II disc now. Will it even run on Windows 10?

Can you get banned from a specific forum?

From experience, huh?

Right on time! I was just thinking that I needed a new reason to hate Steam.
Also a rave: suddenly, by discussing civ games on Off-Topic, we have made Lemon go back to contradicting her signature and giving support for her mods!!

I am very persuasive. :smug:

@Lemon Merchant the images under the HUD Color Utility are broken if you didn't see that. I wanted to see that "unfortunate example: :p"
You can thank Photobucket for deleting that one. Picture the interface in hot pink...

I don't mind helping people who appreciate the help. It's the people who never say thank you for anything that make me mad.

*looks at LM's user title, raises eyebrow, then looks into the camera*

;)

As demonstration of her willingness to help people who are properly courteous, I once went through about half the process necessary to make my own merged DLL from the BAT source code and a 50 civ mod source code, and was totally lost. When I asked her for help, Lemon just did it for me and sent me the dll file. She's been my favorite modder ever since.

Well, actually she was already my favorite at that point, but I still remember it and thank her whenever it comes up in conversation.

Thanks Lemon.

Linux gaming has been made easier through steam play. I am able to play most of my windows only titles on Linux using that. No setup or command line required . I was so happy to have my games work in Linux without breaking , I have not tried any mods. So can't say anything about stability.

Just so you are aware, "but it works fine with Steam" is not a particularly convincing selling point in this particular case.

Some games I know you can just download with Steam then copy/extract the files into a folder outside Steam and they'll still run.

But the only game I have from Steam is Dota2; for all other games I go to GoG or, if possible, to the distributors themselves. Tarball and beyond!

I know. Windows or Steam pick your poison. I have too many games bought through steam right now.

Lutris https://lutris.net/faq platform seems to be promising. Allows many games including path of exile, Skyrim , Warcraft 3, Civilization 4 to be played wherever you bought games including GOG

Will that work even in Linux?

Hmmm....I have my Civ IV CDs but no CD player in my new laptop to install them!!

Which means 'borrowing' an external CD drive or paying Steam for the privilege of another copy!!
