One thing annoying about some of the DLC I bought is that my kingdom is always overrun with raiders. There's usually at least 2 raider armies laying siege to one of my cities. I used to put together an army to wipe them out each time, but now I just ignore them. Nothing happens, as far as I can tell. I probably lose some coin, I mean, looting is a big part of raiding, but if I ignore them my money tash doesn't seem to be hit at all. So who knows what's happening, but they're annoying and I just ignore them

Picked up Arcanum on steam last week and assumed it was an "enhanced edition" like Baldurs Gate. Turns out it isn't so I've been struggling with a 15 year old interface lacking such modern essentials as tooltips, interactive objects become highlighted when you hold a key, a labeled local map, and a quest log that doesn't [insert negative comparison of choice].
Despite that, I've heard enough good things about the game to soldier on. Any tips for the game? Some poking around on the internet indicates I shouldn't go for a tech character at start and I can't go wrong with a melee-mage. Anything beyond that?

Too busy playing Police Quest.

I had same impression about Arcanum, I remember how I hated travelling - it was something like moving in Fallout wasteland but not on map but on whole area. That time (after about 1.5 hour) I uninstalled it. But it is my next RPG to play.

Yeah, I made that mistake initially too. While it does seem that the entire game world is present in the form of blank empty wilderness, you're supposed to click on your destination on your map and fast travel there. Much more sensible.

Some non-combat skills such as Haggle can be very useful. If you play a mage, try to learn Teleport before too long, as you'll often be walking very many places.

Don't forget to check out the brothels!

Wow. I remember how I was checking map if leave areas to north or east:D Now I am really looking forward to play this game.

It does have the small issue that you can only fast-travel whilst you're on the map, so if you wander off-map, you need to wander back on again, but that's not a vast issue.

You can avoid that by starting in 1066 just saying

Ahh so that's when that nonsense stops. I don't even get the point of it. It just makes things annoying. It would have been cool if the raiders showed up every couple decades and tried to pillage a couple of your cities, maybe occupying them, trying to start up their own kingdom or something. But nope, they just show up, annoy people for a while, accomplish nothing, and leave. Why are they even in the game?

Too busy playing Police Quest.

Did you get that with that Sierra Humble Bundle?

I tried playing Kings Quest I, but the speed settings are - Super slow, super incredibly freakishly fast, pause. Anyone here have a fix for that?

Which Police quest are you playing through? I have fond memories of the first one, I was playing that with a friend not too long after I arrived in Canada. Our English was still really bad, we were still learning. The internet wasn't even around yet, so we couldn't easily look up walkthroughs or guides.

What did we get stuck on? For a couple months? We had no idea what a DUI was. We pulled over the first driver, that's how far we made it - not very far. Then we talk to him and all everyone's talking about is a DUI. WTH is a DUI. We gave up and only figured it out later. Ended up beating the game many months later.

In Police Quest 2 at one point you have to examine a manhole cover. We were like.. "Man.. hole.. cover? Like pants? Underwear?? WTH is this game on about..." We were stuck there for a while too.

I will never forget my friend calling me one day saying "Dude, I figured out what a goddamn manhole cover is.. you will never believe this crap.." I ran over to his house and was equally outraged that the English language is so illogical

I haven't played any of the earlier start dates yet, but my understanding of the game is that they wanted to be historically accurate at the beginning, and then let things go wild from there. There's a tip at a loading screen that says something like "this game is purposely imbalanced and unfair."

I bought Police Quest collection in sierra discount on GOG for 3 euros about 14 days ago. I play it right after Tex Murphy serie. I was in police/detective mood and I am still playing first sequel - I have just made it to narcotics department.

Regards King quest I played freeware remakes:

Unless you are really into old school gaming, I recommend it. Its in the same style as older sequel (KQ 7?).
II is much better than I.

Hmm, well it's a cover that goes over a hole that exists for men to go into. Seems pretty logical to me :)

Based on your description alone I would have guessed that a manhole cover is a chastity belt.

Perhaps the problem is that, like most people learning a new language, you started by looking up all the rude words first, and therefore got a skewed perspective on the word "hole"...

Apple waited too long with the new MacBook Pro. I had to buy my first-ever windows machine. As a result I can now play games that you Windows people have had for years.

This Hajj I have been playing;
Call of Duty/Black Ops.Zombies
Grand Theft Auto, although I have no idea what I am supposed to be doing
Civ V

No, we looked at the first word first. "Manhole". A hole in a man. aka butthole

That was our first guess, but right away we knew it wasn't right.

Men go into many holes. It took us a while to guess that they meant a hole in the ground that women fit into as well.
