What We Know About Brave New World

They were shown in screentshots on the escpaist

thanks I missed the diplomatic stuff

Some info that I believe is new (and not covered in Escapist, Rock Paper Shotgun or yesterday Q&N):

-"Brave New World is the second major expansion for Civilization 5 and Firaxis intends for it to be the last"

-"Trade routes last for 30 turns before being eligible for renewal"

-"it is not necessary to obtain consent from another player to establish a trade route"

-"it’s also possible to conduct archaeological digs inside the borders of any civilisation with whom you have an open borders agreement, just don’t expect them to be happy about it

-"Resolutions can also be useful for making up short-falls in your own game, so if you find yourself lagging behind in the science department, you can propose a resolution that makes researching technologies that others have already discovered quicker for those that have not. Other options include proposals that nations desist their nuclear weapons programme (though it does not disarm those already stockpiled) or to ban city-state trade. Each resolution also highlights those leaders that will be happy with you for proposing it and those that will be peeved by your meddling."

-"Brave New World is the second major expansion for Civilization 5 and Firaxis intends for it to be the last"

That is interesting because I have now seen several interview where they refuse to answer that question or give a hint that there may be more

From the GameInformer article (http://www.gameinformer.com/games/c...-will-be-quintessential-civ-experience.aspx):

World Congress resolutions can include "the International Space Station for a science boost." Article also confirms that the WC-authorized "International Games" will confer "improved happiness."

Also, "Over time, the voting cycle speeds up, addressing one of the major complaints about pursuing a diplomatic win. Toward the end of the game, votes take place every other turn."

In this video at 7:29 you can see a tooltip with a new espionage option: spies can be sent as diplomats in a country that you are not at war with. As diplomats, they do not steal technology, but they provide intrigue, increase your tourism and tell you what that nation thinks about various possible World Congress resolutions.

At 7:07 you can also see some of the options for World Congress resolutions: Ban City State Trade (no trade routes with ANY city state), Trade Embargo (no member can establish Trade Routes with that player), Standing Army Tax, Scholar in Residence, World's Fair, International Games. When hovering over an option, you can also see who would get angry if that option gets proposed.

It's possible that the final version of Civ V will be the game with the best diplomacy system in the history of the genre. Who would have thought?

From this French article (http://www.gamekult.com/actu/zoom-civilization-v-brave-new-world-A108361.html), some info about the Zulu UA and UU:

Demandé à cors et à cris par les fans, Shaka le Zulu répond à l'appel avec une réduction de moitié du coup de maintenance de toutes ses unités de corps à corps et un bonus d'expérience de 25% pour toutes ses forces militaires. Son unité unique est l'Impi, un guerrier qui remplace le Piquier et lance une première attaque à mi-distance avant d'engager au corps à corps.

Highly demanded by the fans, Shaka the Zulu responds to the call with a reduction of 50% of maintenance costs for his melee units and an experience bonus of 25% for all his military units. His Unique Unit is the Impi, which replaces the Pikeman and launches a first attack from range before engaging in melee.

Confirmed: In the Q and A, Shirk said that there will be new Natural Wonders, and Natural wonders will boost tourism in way he didn't want to go into at this time.

Moderator Action: *snip* no speculations please.

Also Assyria's siege tower provides attacking bonuses against cities to nearby friendly units [Courtesy of the French article as well]

>Link to video.

This video shows the following city-states in the game. Some are already listed, but some are new:

-Bratislava
-Panama City
-Sofia
-Geneva
-Monaco

Doesn't say a lot, but confirms Monaco won't be a playable civ :p

At 3:00, you can see a list of city-states, but it's likely a clip of G&K or an early build (for example, the lack of international trade routes on the top bar)

4:35 shows all currently revealed civs' leader icons.

Edit: Beaten to it. Feel free to delete this post, as there's nothing new

World Congress:

First to contact all civs (and have researched Printing Press) is only guaranteed to host the first World Congress.

civilization_v_civ_5_brave_new_world_boxout.jpg

It's not clear from the text whether the number of delegates is dependent on the civ's own Era or the Era of the most advanced civ, and whether it will be determined at the start of the 30 turns period or at the actual Congress. The latter makes counting votes a bit of a gamble if civs move into a new era during that time.

From Game Informer preview:
  • over time voting cycle speeds up; voting take place every 10 at the end of game;
  • World Congress automatically turns into the U.N. mid-way through the atomic age;
  • Portuguese UI, Feitoria, can be build only in CS, it provides any resource that CS has, if CS is allied Maria gets two copies of each luxury (it is not clear if the quantity of strategic resources is doubled but seems to be logical);
  • confirms that Nau is a caravel replacement.

Here's a translation from the French Gamekult Web site (via google translate, so):

Spoiler :
Civilization V will continue to expand this summer with the arrival of Brave New World, a second expansion expected for the month of July on our machines.

The program of this add-on, a focus on cultural development and business expansion history to give a boost for parties, considered too passive by developers and the community. To better assess the value of these innovations, Firaxis and 2K Games have invited us to discover in detail and even take control of a pre-release of Civilization V: Brave New World for a few hours.

Around The World

Firaxis for the arrival of Gods & Kings last year has improved in the middle of the game Civilization V forgetting a bit to reinvigorate the final sprint. The main objective of Brave New World will be of increasing interest in recent eras where it was a little too prone to look at the screen through our tour in total apathy. To do this, the developer has cooked some new game mechanics, starting with international trade, a novelty that will accompany us throughout the game and will grow exponentially over the years. Upon discovery of Livestock (one of the first search of the game), players can now get a caravan to connect distant cities by the magic trade. This first exchange agent will not be the most efficient, with a range of only ten cases and only on the ground but will still select a destination (one of our cities, a foreign cities or city-state) being careful benefits of each alternative at hand.

The interest is obviously to garner gold, as the starting point to the end point of the caravan elsewhere, but also carry a few other benefits along the way. Luxury resources now, but the food (if one has a Grenier) and production points (if you have a workshop). Ideal when you want to focus all the productive power of our empire to our city Wonderland or to feed a new city quickly that we just found. These trade routes are managed automatically for thirty laps after initiated before asking a new destination once this time. The discovery of Sailing Navigation will then conduct the same type of exchange through the sea, with increased range (45 cases) and a yield of gold doubled. The eternal risk for any commercial network is its inability to penetrate the fog of war and defense, making it especially vulnerable in times of war and / or barbarian territory. Search our escort caravans, or rot those of our opponents, is obviously a major new challenge. A new indicator of trade benefits to appear at the top of the screen, allowing us to know immediately the maximum number of caravans available at any given time.

I ♥ New York

Another major innovation of Brave New World is found on the side of tourism, a new resource that will completely change the goal in a Cultural Victory. Longer a question of simply raising culture points to fill the Social Policy tree, the former cultural indicator is now considered the defense force of civilization against external influences. Who says defense side said the other offense necessarily and tourism points we amass over the years will "attack" our neighbors in influencing their populace with the cultural achievements of our flock. To do this, it will create the Great Works via Great Artists (Musicians, Painters, Writers, etc.) and place them at the disposal of curious eyes via the location provided in some buildings and cultural wonders. The game will benefit us drink ears and peepers in the creation of these works since we have to move right to a look or an extract of the establishment in question at its genesis. A new screen allows us to monitor cultural influences from elsewhere and our assault on neighboring populations, knowing that complete domination of our culture on all world civilization will now be required to carry the Cultural victory.

For players more interested in diplomacy, Civilization V: Brave New World also sign the arrival of World Congress (and later the United Nations) in the game this big meeting of world powers will be discovered automatically by the first civilization to meet all the other countries of the world and to have invented the Printing. We can offer various treaties - whether a trade embargo, a tax on the raising of armies, the organization of major international games, etc. - before leaving the decision to implement them vote of all members. Two resolutions proposed at the same time and it was 30 laps to decide to get involved or not, knowing that it is now possible to vote traffic through traditional diplomacy (provided you have placed a spy as ambassador in our party). It is therefore quite possible to cover our neighbors or to encourage them to vote on our military taxation of an enemy who starts to gather a little too dangerous units. Interesting. Once transformed into a UN atomic age, the World Congress will also provide access to the new Diplomatic Victory through a Special Resolution: The Global Leader of the vote. Suffice to say it will not lubricate sore legs to win this election there.

Calling Dr.Jones

In addition to these big novelties major influence on the victory conditions, Civilization V: Brave New World we also propose to discover a new hobby: Archaeology. Thanks to a new unit, which looks like two drops of water at a certain Indiana Jones, we can now look at Ancient Sites that automatically appear in special locations. It may be old battle sites dating from the beginning of our party or a former barbarian camp disappeared from towers, for example. We send our young scientists on site to create an archaeological site that will create a monument (generator defensive culture) or retrieve an artifact (for the creation of Great Works). The beauty of this system is that it is quite possible to dig the ruins placed in enemy territory, which enchant obviously not local leaders. Site creation reminds us of their origin, a friendly wink to the infancy of our civilization.

At the end of the game, when you discover the modern era or that we built three plants, Civilization V: Brave New World also unlocks access to Ideology. All included in the new extension, it is probably the least innovative because it is in fact a recasting of Social Policy mutually exclusive of the base game (Order, Autocracy and Freedom) . These are actually more accessible before accessing Ideology, who asked to choose one of the three before releasing a new tree where to spend our points Social Policy. Much more expansive, it has three levels of development with seven skills level 1, level 2 and four three level 3. Greatly influence what and customize our approach, even if one chooses the same ideology as the neighbor. In addition to all this, Civilization V: Brave New World adds new classics an extension of Civilization with buildings, Wonders and more playable countries.

You're not Indians? Aaaah, you're Indians!

The announcement of the game was an opportunity to discover Poland, and its leader Casimir the Great, with a racial bonus that gives them access to a free Social Policy changes in AD. We recall that their special unit is Winged Hussar, a unit of heavy cavalry that repels enemies with every attack box. This new encounter with the game also allowed us to take a look in the Civilopedia to discover some of the other newcomers. Brazil, led by Pedro II, inherits Carnival, a bonus culture important during the Golden Ages, a special camp to build on the jungle to gather gold and finally a single unit, the Pracinha, which moves us to the next Golden Age with each victory and even twice as fast in enemy territory. Portugal also answers the call with Marie Ist to his head and a special ability that generates a lot more gold trade routes. Their unique unit is Nau, a boat that can sell resources exotic foreign land to earn gold. Their workers can build a Feitoria near city states for their "borrow" a luxury resort.

Ashurbanipal of Assyria ball continues newcomers with the ability to steal enemy technology during the conquest of a city. His special unit Tower Head replaces the Catapult by giving an attack bonus against all the cities nearby units. His special building is the Royal Library, which obviously replaces the Library, and grants a bonus to science proportional amount of our citizens. Asked horns and shouts from fans, Shaka Zulu answers the call with a halving of stroke maintenance all melee units and an experience bonus of 25% for all of its military forces. Its unique unit is the Impi, a warrior who replaces Pikeman attack and launched a halfway before engaging in melee. Other new are indeed planned, and we have already been able to glimpse rummaging where it would not, but the official announcement will be visible later. Suspense. Our test Civilization V: Brave New World has generally gone well, even if the backup completely abused (wealthy civilization in peace with everyone, with a force of production surreal, etc.) would not let any really foresee the potential this extension. See you in July for a little more realistic estimate of the thing.

Pretty bad translation, but it appears Portugal at least gets more gold from trade routes, Pracinha's have double movement in enemy territory, workers build Feitoria's to "borrow" a trade good.

Also, around 3:37-3:41 in the video, if you look at the science trading...It takes how many more techs the more advanced civ has than the other civ. The number is then divided in half and that's how many beakers the less advanced civ gets!
