What would happen if the war in the Middle East was like a game of Civ

except in razing mecca we would probably get nuked by pakistan and maybe even israel and when and if iran gets nukes they would hit us for sure so all of the middle east would be a bunch of size 3 cities and fallout

Why would Israel nuke the USA if they raze Mecca? nuking Mecca is Israel's wet dream. more likely that if Mecca will be nuked by the USA, Israel will be blamed by the Islamic world.
If you want to decribe the Middle East on civ terms it will be a Israeli bomber that bombs the huge stack of anti-tank guns in Gaza and gets diplomatic penalties in most of the empires. Iran would be a theocratic-police state with vassals like Hezbollah and Hammas.

Actually, I think the best analogy wouldn't be a live war, but some hidden nationality units and spies going and pillaging and harassing stuff. Everyone knows everyone else is doing it, can point fingers, and they have very bad relations because of spies and "We are upset that you have fallen under the sway of a heathen religion". However, nobody can actually declare war because they have too many Defensive Pacts that will be canceled if it's them rather than the other side that declares.

Cutting off a ton of financial resources from Saudi Arabia. If we had to capture it, we would have to defend it and that would be more of a drain than a gain, since you know they would fight hard to get it back. And for those who are concerned about the nukes flying in, I think you need to look at some stats about who has the advantage in the ICBM department.

this is mecca we're talkin about not jerusalem and im pretty sure that all of saudi arabia is flat desert for the most part, so city garrison 3 would be more helpful as well as pinch

So America is strong enough to fight a convential war with no nukes. If it used Nukes the entire land will become unusable when America could capture all those oil resources.
But what is with America anyways? Russia is closer and will grap much more of the Middle East before America.
Russian culture will spread into Middle East, and connect with the Russian Jew diaspora in Israel.
