Except they were just as prolific and just as intelligent as they were two years ago. Then there's WillJ and stratego - I seem to recall them being ~16 yrs old when I joined, though I heard stratego was in college or something, so maybe I'm wrong...

I think you're confusing them with me. I got into Harvard.:D.
I'd say the people in the Computer forum are quite smart. I always get help from the Computer forum here.

I don't care if you got into Harvard (not that I'm saying I believe you), Stratego and WillJ are way smarter than you ;)

you two go spam another thread. don't kill this one

Golly gee, everyone posting in this thread (except Red Stranger) sounds so...inteligent and thoughtful. ;)

was it you who claimed to have gotten into Harvard, because during your visit there in sophomore year of highschool, the dean of admissions said you could get in if you ket up your GPA?

from your rankings link:

1 Williams College (MA)
2 Amherst College (MA)
3 Swarthmore College (PA)
4 Wellesley College (MA)
5 Carleton College (MN)
6 Bowdoin College (ME)
6 Pomona College (CA)
8 Haverford College (PA)
8 Middlebury College (VT)
10 Claremont McKenna College (CA)
10 Davidson College (NC)
12 Wesleyan University (CT)

I guess that I'm in the 12th best liberal arts college in the US. Too bad it sucks badly. These rankings are bs, it all depends on what you're studying, and whether your wanna get a graduate degree, etc.

Depends on what one means with intelligence.
Receptive: Great. Most people are very good at school.
Creative: Mixed. Some people are, some not.
Social: Difficult to assess, but considering the high geek density, probably not so impressive.
Ability of independent thinking: Quite poor. With the exception of some 50 excellent people, most posters here are usually parroting dominant media or their father when some political issue crops up.Usually quite a few goes ballistic if a point of view which is not snugly established in the doxic room comes along. The Last Conformist should really change his username.

Congratulations, but Perfection is right, the quality of WillJ's posts, and the depth of thought that he was capable of, were far beyond most high school students. A word of advice though, you may be a hotshot straight A's student in high school, but however smart you think you are, when you go to college/university, you'll realise quickly that there are thousands of people who are MUCH smarter than you. It's only when you're pitted against the brightest minds in the country, and posed with problems that only the brightest minds can solve, that you can truely know just how smart you are.

Incidentally, how does one estimate creative intelligence here?
Good question.
I would say on the basis of achievements. For instance, some people here are talented writers, some have graphical skills, a few make great mods and scenarios for our great game.
Of course, there might be a great deal of hidden talent around.

below average. with delusions of grandeur.

and that's taking into account the sheer awesomeness of perfection. the IQ average here would be so screwed without him.

Dunno, appearances are deceptive, all is not gold that glitters and all that crap.

+ what luceafarul said.

Some posters in the history forum are, without doubt, very intelligent.

This is one of the only forums that can actually create and maintain an intelligent discussion without it degrading into trolling and flaming.

Aren't your parents super rich or something? This impression was from some polls, or other, you did rank your family at the very top for being affluent i remember. Getting into havard by being rich is nothing to be proud of and if you are smarter than Stratego, i will eat my shorts.

I would say that people here are somewhere "Average" to "Above Average". I've seen many types of people here. But compared to other forums, it is good. Also I observed that the intelligent posters post less in the OT and more in the other forums. This is making me thinking more before posting here.

Excellent advice - and very true.

Hey, that's my line!

Really though, many of the world's most successful people started with what others labeled as unrealistic dreams. Don't let other people tell you what can't be done. If you've thought your ideas through carefully then just go ahead and proceed to prove them wrong. :yup:
