What's the intelligence level on the OT forum?

How smart are the people on this forum?

I read a really funny study that rated high schools and then ranked them according to a criteria.

They measured alumni after three years and measured them based on.
- were they in jail?
- had they voted in the last election?

That's it. I thought it rather elegant. What else do you really want in a citizen?

Depends on if we're looking at the mean or the median. The median is above average, but the mean is bumped up to really smart because of my immense intellectual abilities.
:bump:
Ha, canceled you out! :woohoo:

Actually - Comparing CFC OT to the other internet discussions I've seen, I decided to vote "really smart". Maturity level ain't too bad either, considering the typical age of OT participants.

I can't vote really smart, because it's just too hard to measure smartness diffinitivly on the internet.

Because you can just take a few minutes to do a google search, and then your intelligence can appear to be much higher than what it is. So stupidity is unexcuseable, while intelligence can be immitated.

But most here seem to know what they are talking about, and can generally hold their own in a debate (that happens very often here).

People often mistake being knowledgable with being smart, it's not what you know it's how you use it.

I know some say the brightest know the most and there is certainly is a correlation with smartness and how much you remember but it's far from an effective measure of intelect, especially as you say, on the internet, where facts are a dime a dozen.

I think you just mixed up one of those and intelligence; being smart and having knowledge are both what you know; intelligence is how you use it.

Unless I'm just proving your point by mixing them both up.

:)

This is one of the only forums that can actually create and maintain an intelligent discussion without it degrading into trolling and flaming.
ok, sorry, i just saw this.

i have not seen ONE thread here, especially on the big topics that hasn't degraded into pointless bickering. i suppose that isn't flat out abuse, it's probably more people abusing each other but thinking they're being subtle about it.

If I sway my opinion due to discourse, then clearly my original position was wrong, and the person who swayed me was intelligent.

Case in point - you've corrected my definition of intelligence. Point to betazed.

And so presumably over time, you become the most intelligent person here, because you come to agree with only the most intelligent people.

Yes, I know about the flaw in that logic....

Smart and intelligent are synonyms, at least in my dictionary, you Yanks are always corrupting the language and turning it into gibberish :D :p

I apologise, but we Brits call all you US citizens Yankees, it's slang it doesn't have to make sense :)

Like the way you speak "English"?

 well languages evolve. Try the queens English, it's free of the slang that's inherent in our speech. Me I guess I'll try an American English to English dictionary ;)

...now, could it use a little help in the maturity department, yeah, but then again...it's still ahead of the curve on that one compared to the regular world as well.
I knock this forum a few pegs down on the 'maturity' scale.

Most users here are very intellegent. Even those I disagree with are half witted, I just don't agree with what they say.

Nope, intelligence is how much you know. That's why the IQ measures how much you know.

Absolutely I become the smartest. Not only do I become just as intelligent as you in the areas you're correct in, but I remain correct in all the areas that I'm correct in and you're not. It's win/win
