Gibran Khalil Gibran's A Tear and a Smile.

Start the new thread, Ajidica!

Arkady and Boris are awesome! Read almost everything they wrote.
It was an incredible book. I love the stalker/Zone aesthetic and adore STALKER and Metro, so it was inevitable I'd read the book that inspired it all.

I still have to read the Metro novelizations.

The afterword about dealing with the USSR censors was interesting too.

Few of their books were not published until Perestroika, due to censorship.
"Roadside Picnic" is typical by their style, but different from their other novels by setting.
They had two major series, the earlier one was about exploration of Solar System. Boris was astronomer, so the books were quite accurate from scientific point of view.
One example is the "Way to Amalthea", about cargo ship which suffered meteorite damage to main engine and started falling into Jupiter.

Another series was about more distant future, 22-nd century. Interstellar travel, colonization of far planets, interaction with different sentient alien races. Communist society on Earth.

Synsensa-tje, new thread!

Fortune's Favourite by Colleen McCullough (re-reading).
