To be honest i will probably scrap my list anyway and when i finally will seat down with GS for the first time i will go with the mood.. i just like playing civ in general, sure that some mechanism i prefer more than others.. but it's civ man.. only hoping that nothing is broken to that point i would need to quit.. otherwise i'm fine even with canada..
Totally subject to my whim when I fire up the game on the 14th, but I'm thinking a non-GS civ on a large map with all nine new leaders. I forgot to go after the Netherlands 7-7-7 achievement when I played them the first time, so maybe Wilhelmina?
Voted a while ago for the Inca, but wanted to wait until all civs were revealed to choose my list, but then saw the fun in updating a list. So here it’s mine:
1. Inca
2. Mali (tie)
2. Maori (tie)
4. Sweden
5. [Ottoman]
6. [Phoenecia]
7. [Eleanor]
8. Hungary
Those last three could change things up a bit though.
Now, it could be fun to go random on February 14th, meaning from the new civs. Never done that. And I find it interesting and practical to use a civ I have played before to find my way and learn the new mechanics. Haven’t done that either.
I could see myself playing Hungary second to last (canada definitely last) and them being my go-to civ out of the bunch (pending Phoenicia and Ottomans which could be amazing) just because I love building strong economies (both commerce + production -wise). It's kinda boring but powerful and reliable bonuses.
I like the Ottomans historically, and I even rather like their depiction in the game this time around, but I'm not sure I want to play a domination game my first playthrough. Oddly enough, I wasn't that interested in Sweden, theoretically speaking, but then they got Great Work theming bonuses... and I'm the sort of player that has a strong tendency to hoard great works. I basically share Kristina's Bibliophile agenda. (Which is why I thoroughly despise when Kongo appears in my games. I raze his cities, salt the earth, and rename his capital!)
With that in mind, my updated list is likely thus:
Sweden (seems like a good choice to explore the new mechanics)
Maori (the most unique design so far; I'll feel ready to try them after I get a grasp on the new features)
Ottomans (okay, now let's knock some heads)
Mali (the second most unique design so far)
Hungary (let's build that Foreign Ministry and use my satellite states to rule the world!)
Inca (seems strong, but if you ignore the fact that they can build earlier mountain tunnels and work mountain tiles, they're actually a bit plain)
?
?
?
?
?
Canada (I'm not sure I'm ever going to roll a game with Canada; I dislike its inclusion)
I'll have to see what they do with Phoenicia and Eleanor.
My list isn't that different, but I think the Ottomans will be interesting enough with a unique governor that I moved them up one notch. I actually plan on taking Ibrahim as my first governor and promotion.
1: Mali
2: Maori
3: Inca
4: Phoenicia (tentative)
5: Ottomans
6: Hungary
7. Sweden
8. Eleanor
9. Canada
10. Georgia- yes Georgia
10: USA maybe
11: China
12: Egypt
13: Japan maybe
and anyone else with significant changes
1. Sweden (epic culture and getting to know the new mechanics)
2. Ottomans (love their design, although I hope they'll tweak the Janissaries a bit)
3. Mali (getting ready for some real drawbacks and unique playstyle)
4. Phoenecia
5. Hungary (interesting take on warfare)
6. Maori (still have the feeling they are disgustingly OP with their UU)
7. Inca (a bit bland)
8. Canada (essentially worse Sweden)
Waiting to see what Dido and Eleanor will be about...
If the leak is correct, Phoenicia is going first. The only way I wouldn't pick it is if there's an Egyptian alternative leader or some civ not mentioned.
This is probably the biggest mechanical change civ has ever seen in an expansion. Even more of an overhaul to the systems than Ed did fixing the V's vanilla launch.
I have moved Ottomans to the top, followed by Inca, Eleanor, and then Mali. I am actually interested in seeing the new changes to existing Civs, like England and America.
