So for true Tolkien fans that have read the Simarillion, you know there are 3 main types of Elves.

1. Vanyar - The fewest in number but the first to follow into the blessed land and the Closest to the grace of the Valar. Their Lord Ingwe is high lord of all the Elves.

2. Noldar - Probably the most powerful elves in Body and Mind, but also more quick to anger and sometimes Rash in decision. Many of the Noldar rebellion and had an Exodus back into Middle-Earth at the beginning of the first age. Elrond, Galadrial, etc are all considered part of this race.

3. Teleri - The bulk of the Elves population. Considered by Melkor Weak and useless but pure at heart and are the elves that build ships in the white havens of Valinor.

What about the elves that never went west and stayed in middle earth proper? I think you forgot them.

The Sindar? The belong to the Teleri, IIRC.

edit: oh wait, that's not the ones who stayed in middle-earth either :hmm:

I tried to read the Silmarillion but got bored hafway through the third chapter. Are there any 'dark' elves or ones that went eat through the land of he easterlings?

I was a human the last time I checked ;)

When I see how seriously people take the fantasy stuff, I am afraid that advancements in genetics will inevitably lead to a genuine elven race being created by Tolkien-fans...

Probably Noldar. I'm a bit hot headed and rash at times.

You spelt Noldor wrong.

The elves that never went to the West were called the Moriquendi or 'Dark Elves' as they never saw the light of the trees. /LOTR geek

I am drow.I hate all elves except drows, halfdrows and draegloths.

It's not only the TYPE that is a biggie with me, but which one. I, myself, am actually Ingwe, so all you other suckers can just bow down right now and kiss my big toe.

By extension, obviously, I am Vanyar.

Noldor FTW!
