Which television shows are you watching? Part III

Then I won't mention that I've read 4 other books in between 1 and 5. I needed a break.
It only takes me a few days to finish most books. I have a hour rail commute in and out of downtown every weekday, and I read to put myself to sleep every night.

It is funny. I'm reading book 5 of the expanse and only up to watching S01.E04 but even though I thought the characters were different than I was picturing them, after 4 episodes I now picture them like in the show. It's amazing how fast you adapt.
You read fast holy cow
...and you need to watch more television! At this rate, season 4's gonna be out before you're done with season 2.

It would be a lot easier if my wife wasn't hooked on the Bachelor and all related shows.
Another excuse to read.

Well, season 1 of Better Than Us, all 16 episodes, was very good and ended well. Season 2 is not yet available on Netflix. It is worth giving it a few episodes try to see if you like it. Don't expect a lot of hitech production; it is a strange mix of current day and an overlay of robotic stuff with a interesting story.

I'm watching Party Down again for the fifth or sixth time.
I don't know if it's the best American sitcom, but it's definitely in the top 5.

Is anyone planning on watching Carnival Row or The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance? Both are released today, but I won't have time to watch them for awhile.
Both have piqued my interest enough to watch the first episode (which, admittedly, doesn't take much - I'll give almost anything a shot).

Just finished Manhunt: Unabomber. Kinds disappointed at how fake and Hollywood dramatized many aspects are, seeing that I just watched Zodiac which was more or less pretty accurate.

Interesting though how it portrays Ted as sympathetic while also suggesting he is one of the OG Incel killers.

I am certainly interested in The Dark Crystal series -- and (amazingly!) it has actually been released on Netflix.de as well! So I will probably be watching it at some point.

Haven't got Amazon, though, so someone else will have to check out Carnival Row for you ;)

I'm 5 episodes into Carnival Row. Its interesting. Wierd. A touch hard to follow early on but once you get up to speed its decent.

It's not on Earth. It's a world where there's at least three distinct "lands." Burgh (I'm not sure of spelling) is where humans are, they're essentially Victorian Steampunk. Then there are Fae which are pixies, pucks(fauns) and a smattering of other fantasy creatures, I think I spotted a centaur. Their homeland was invaded by the "Pack" (again, spelling, not sure) a technologically superior people with werewolf allies. The Burgh allied with the fae but they were still overwhelmed. Fae refugees migrated to Burgh and there are anti immigrant tensions.

That's where the show starts. Can't say much more without spoilers.

I guess if you like steampunk and have a high tolerance for wild fantasy it's worth checking out. There are definitely immigration and racial themes here that kind of make it political. That may turn some off. I'm on the fence, it was about episode 3 or 4 before I started to get into it more.

American Crime Story People v OJ. Reminder of what a gong show that was, and I was under 10 when it was going on and still remember clearly many aspects from the trial, showing how pervasive it was in the media at the time. Yikes. Ugly embarrassing moment for America to hyper sensationalize such a thing, and of course the verdict and shame that some and a higher portion of African-Americans apparently STILL believe he is innocent, though no black person I know or met thinks that. Even worse the media doing that interview where he admits he did it...hypothetically.

49 Days: Episode 20 (Final)

If I tried to explain this episode in a paragraph, I think I’d spill more tears, and frankly, I don’t know if I have any left. So here it is in a nutshell: It’s fudging PERFECT. Gah. Okay, fine, it’s maybe a hair shy of perfect, but damn if it isn’t the most satisfying ending I’ve seen in a long time. It solidifies the assumption that I started this drama with—that the best thing about this show would always be the writing, which elevates everything else, and brings all our characters full circle."

Decided to give this a look/see, it's a chick series but has rave reviews from around the world.

I started watching Modern Family. I think I caught some of the first season back when it originally came out and a smattering of episodes beyond that. It's pretty funny but since I vaguely remember a lot of these early episodes, the jokes are falling a bit flat. I remember being in stitches when I first saw them so I'm hoping when I get beyond episodes I've seen that I'll find it funnier.

You might like American Housewife, I think.

I rewatched episode 1, season 2 of GLOW last night, and I forgot how funny it was. "My costume smells like beer and racism." Jenny doing her fake sob-story in [language]* was a riot. The best joke was a visual gag, so I can't really reproduce it here, when Bash says, "Oh, 'prep' as in 'prepare.'" I was crying with laughter. :lmao:

* Wikipedia says that Ellen Wong's parents speak Teochew. Maybe that's what it was?

Season 3 of GLOW, I forget which episode:

Debbie: "What do you think of Sandy?"
Sam: "I bet she's dynamite in the sack."
Debbie: "I don't like her."
Sam: "Yeah, it's always tough to meet the Ghost of Christmas Future."
Debbie: "I'd forgotten how much I love talking to you."

---

Bash: "This'll be great! We'll be like The Three..."
Sam: "Cerberus?"

Just saw S3 E19 "Just Say Yo" from Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and bawled like a baby at the end. Fantastic episode.
