To be fair, I think the main reason the thread got closed was because of one poster suddenly blasting out continuously about lurkers, which made it seem like it had descended into spam. Hell, when I first saw it closed I assumed a mod was just taking some time in deleting the posts, got a bit alarmed when it wasn't opened later

Well, to be fair, Herodotus does much the same thing ("freedom" rather than "democracy," but still). And don't think he doesn't say some really strange things about foreigners, either (his explanation for the riches of one particular tribe of Indians springs to mind).

There are historical precedents for Diplomacy, as well. I'd be perfectly willing to move if a mod insisted, but given that the Diplomacy forum has been dead for the last year, it seems they don't care.
