While We Wait: Part 2

Hopefully the power outage didnt prevent you from seeing a result. :p (forgive us, we're Canadian)

And I shall stay up for the update. Dont make me an insomniac.

So anyways, question/opinion time!

In your opinion, which player has set up the most insidious network of agents in a NES, and what NES was that?

I agree, I fully look forwards to DipNES02 updates
Glad you like it. The map looks so good in grey, don't you agree? ;)

Disenfrancised in NES2 VIa comes to mind immediately. Cleric, Kal'thzar and Symphony D. are also into espionage. I do like to have lots spies and assassins running around, but I mostly use them in a more straightforward fashion, and most often against internal opponents.

Dis definitly comes to mind, but then hes one that used it for extraordinary gains. He pulled it off very well.

A most insidious network remains covert, it's existence to be never known of or at least regarded as disbanded or a myth and an urban legend.

Yeah, I started doing that a few updates back. It works well.

Stats are actually done, and have been done since before the written section was complete. I just haven't had the time to switch them. :p

You're far too bold, and the last time, it cost you badly. :p

As a side note; I only ever make spies important to myself when I am of sufficient size and power.

Basically I view it as a case of diminishing returns on other resources (military, tech, etc). And at a certain point I will get spies etc to start filling it out.

Of course I'm attracted to playing an espionage only game, but last time I attempted something similar lack of playing + getting attacked a lot, left me with a choppy game experiance. (still fun; you take your victories where you can :p)

Chance of an update Kal'?

Probably the wrong person to ask.. see me sig :(

That's what you think :cowboy: The net gain was much worth it. :hide:
Nah. For one, your interference and theft pissed me off and I was looking for you. Canada was just an example. For two, I had a lot more money and a lot more researchers to burn on high-technology that I could use when I did find you. :p

I was already at early WWII spec equipment when the game ended.

What were those death rays that das mentioned in the updates?

The world wonders! They wouldn't be all that effective relative to the cost or bulk relative to conventional arms, but the technology might show the way to something actually useful. If you all plead and beg a little more I might tell you! I'm predisposed towards giving away awesome ideas.

I'll promise not to ruin your next couple of Nesing experiances...

Damn it, thats not what I meant, got to get a hang of this pleading and begging thing...

Uhmm please, pretty please? I think you're a nice person and not a cynical hollowed out shell like the rest of us NESers....

Still not quite right.

Anyway; Sympth, how do you do Espionage?

Close enough.

Imagine you've got a mobile generator you're hauling around in motorized vehicles hooked up to the engine, much like on an old U-Boat, and you've got capacitor banks for storing up charge. Suppose you want to use all that electricty to fry some people. But it's hard to direct. So you carry around tanks of gallium and high-pressure pumps to spray it like on a crocodile flame tank.

Why gallium? For one, it's only ten times less conductive than copper wire, and is easily coverted into a liquid form at about room temperature; you can heat it by using it as a coolant for whatever power unit you have on board. Plus when you spray it everywhere it gets into the soil and can be reprocessed out, and in the meantime it's not anywhere near as toxic as mercury (though for some people, that might be a drawback). Secondly, gallium has the unique property of attacking metal lattices. Meaning it eats metal over time.

Put the two together and you have a perfect if somewhat short-ranged anti-armor weapon that's also somewhat reasonable at frying infantry. Because of the corrosion-resistance needed for the barrel already you can also use salt-water (which is also conductive though tens of thousands of times less so) in a pinch should you run out of the stuff.

It's like an electrolaser without the laser or those weird hydroelectric nonlethal guns they've developed lately on it's rather quite lethal. Actual problems with the system include 1.) finding enough gallium, which is quite rare, 2.) getting compact power generation and storage powerful enough to afford such a thing, 3.) having auxiliary units following soldiers around reprocessing the stuff off battlefields, 4.) actually finding conditions in which to use it where it would have some real benefit over conventional weapons, which would be very rare.

Still, it was fun. And no, as a note to any mod considering letting their player run with it, I don't think you should, for the above-mentioned reasons. It'd mostly be a psychological weapon if anything. Chief benefit would be directing attention towards the premise of Directed Energy Weapons. Still, it's about the best you can do in a 1930s equivilent.

Anyway; Sympth, how do you do Espionage?
Quietly.

Intresting, but I was more intrested in your Espionage to be honest;

I mean Das from what I've seen is very objective orientated.

I prefer a more low level infilitration of all branches of government; a very General approarch. And then If I want something specific done I'll have some sort of baseline infilitration worked out from which to start doing my thing.

Quick Note to lurker; Golden Touch; why are you in here so often?

I think she wants to know what Abaddon is wasting so much time on :p
