While We Wait: Part 3

I mean, I was totally the whipping boy for that NES. If people weren't plotting against me, they were attacking me, or rebelling against me, or betraying peace agreements I'd made with them, after I had left for trips...

Then after my empire had been shattered apart, Tasan Kemal comes and manages to hold together Turkey, but Reno still gets Edirne... I end up becoming your ally, but still then get betrayed by everyone anyway, and take the blame.

At any rate, I surprise even myself with my trusting nature sometimes. :p

I just realised that I've only played in two NESes so far (DaNES, NoP NES II). I guess I'm too selective.

Retroactive deletion.

<snip>
I've almost forgotten about DEFCON. I really ought to play it sometime.

It's just because we really ARE that good. ;)

And we want the rest of the people here to be nearly as good as well. ;)

Currently, my biggest lack in NES-related knowledge is geography.

It is most advisable for every serious NESer to have at least a basic historical atlas close by. Encarta is also highly recommendable.

I think most of us have a lot to be embarrassed about with regards to our earliest NESing experience; I, for one, couldn't re-read my posts in the first NES without cringing.

About geography and NESing. NESing has taught me of places that will rarely if ever be brought up in discussion. I still know them and thats all that matters. :p

I NES for a release.

That is funny as NESing can be one of the most time consuming things on this planet.

Does anyone else ever feel like a nerd playing in games where we lead countries and do diplomacy rather than you know doing the things like WoW?

Good from day one here. ;)

My only early regret is not wanting to scare Concona off and holding a plebiscite in Chile in staznes VI rather than annexing it outright.

I think my early newb days have been pretty much hidden as many many NES crashed and burned in quick succession. Only BJ's NES survived.. and even then I killed off my first nation (Egypt) but then went on to Drive Portugal (from admittedly a good position) to greatness.

My first real NES was with the People's Republic of China in stbNES...oh good times. We commies pwned the world before it blew up.

The most pathetic part about it was I pwned you

No, you backstabbed me.. in my first turn playing a nes.. Woo, go you.

No, you were killed by me and the FK amassing about 175 divisions between the two of us (IIRC; I had about 50 and Stormy had God-knows-how-many). No betrayals there, when he was already at war with you and I never joined no "Balkan Pact". :p

Back when I was a n00b, in Sheep's NES as Finland, I didn't do anything overly stupid (tried to deploy troops to Iraq, but ended up not doing so; then took over part of Norway and generally acted like an eager puppet of Germany's), but it didn't really last long enough to tell.

Meh- I look back upon the early days with a smile :). I try not to fuss about about spam mainly because of my early days- it was one spam war after another. I still have a fond space in my heart for Goobnes 2- I still harbor a hatred of Egypt.

My worst early NESing career mistake was trusting people.

Same....In My first, I was Greece in around 1900 historical times, and was actually treated fairly well. This gave me a bunch of confidence, and in the next game I played as Piedmont in about 1780. I was conquered and split up by turn 2 between Austria and France after they tricked me into attacking Venice and wasting all my troops.

I wish I could remember who was playing them....

Actually I still make that same mistake. But I have run out of people to trust so it shouldn't happen again.

lucky, what nations were you in birdnes1?
