While We Wait: Part 4

Re the proposed team with me on it: Sparrow55 appears not to play in actual NESes any more.

Re Lucky's question: Update LuckNES VI: Best Served Cold! Or at least post saying it's dead. I'm honestly beginning to be wary of joining your NESes, since you seem to lose interest in them very quickly...

You do know I lost the world map to that when my PC was fried right?

With that one, he lost the map. He really doesn't want to abandon it, but he can't really bring it back.

EDIT: Xpost.

Can't you just increase the map gradually as people expand outwards? That doesn't seem like a huge issue to me, as we won't see most of the map for a VERY long time...

My mouse is broken and North King had made the map. It wouldn't look right.
I'm doubtful about that excuse, but it's ultimately your call.

In that case, go for an Earth 2000 BC fresh start, using the IT-BT system. It might be interesting to use a cradle-type system for that--so players can only start in the first BT where there was actually real civilization at that point (the Middle East, India, and China essentially). Basically CZ maps, but much stricter.

Anyway, the most important thing would be to actually stick to updating this one NES, rather than killing it off and starting a new one soon...

Actually I would rather not do an earth fresh start. Indeed my mouse left button is broken. I can click but holding it down is iffy, it does not recognize being held down. Highlighting is extremely annoying and drawing is even harder.

If I ever got my head out of Sekai for a moment, I might play in some sort of NES that focused on the colonization of another planet or something. I'm also intrigued by the fresh start concept.

There is a sci-fi NES by Chandrasekhar up somewhere, it should be quite good. I'm not normally into sci-fi NESes myself though :)

YuiNES is pretty good, although there are issues with the map - otherwise you should join N3S or BirdNES, they're the best ones flowing currently, if you like those fresh starts (Even though they aren't completely fresh, they've been running for some updates).

I've checked them out a couple of times and they all seem very interesting. I also rather like the idea behind LifeNES. I am just rather hard-pressed on time as it is. I don't know if I can give my all to another NES just yet, but hey, in a couple weeks or a month, it might be possible.

Other news: das had to stay in Chicago for a while until reinforcements arrived,
HA HA HA HENTZEL

...okay, sorry. Supermath might get that ref, but maybe not. Me bein' random.

It's unusual for me to keep playing a game for so long. This is my first world conquest liberation attempt, I'm determined to see it through. Its also fun with generals named after NESers, and I got to be creative with adding pictures and stuff :)
Good reasons for keeping something going.

I cant imagine playing a whole RTW campaign in one go! Did you skip all the micro-management etc? I usually find everything messing up and people dying horribly unless I take it slow...
I didn't skip MMing, but for me the RTW MMing is easier than the Civ MMing because it's mostly adjusting happiness and population growth instead of doing that PLUS managing every single tile you're working for maximum output. My usual strategy for RTW is to build mines (which are the really huge money-makers) and trade stuff early and often, so that adjusting the taxation rate doesn't kill your economy when you need to keep the people happy and you can't just add a garrison. And then of course in vanilla (and even patched RTW) you get the wonderful domino effect, wherein conquering speed speeds up as you get more cities to produce more armies which conquer more cities and so on. That's why I like mods like Roma Surrectum and Europa Barbarorum (and of course RTR to a lesser extent) - it takes forever to finally build the appropriate military structures in a given city, so you can't automatically switch to recruiting heavy units like Urban Cohorts and Royal Pikemen as soon as you seize new land. Also, the tactical element keeps me interested, because in most of the mods on Very Hard or so the enemy can actually come up with some neat stuff. I don't get so many 400 man armies beating 1400 man armies anymore (unless I play as Saka Rauka in EB, but that's a different story)

I must confess I don't know who justokre is.
I dimly remember him being around a lot at about the same time as NES2 VI, but I can't for the life of me remember what he played or how good he was either.

Not that I actually understand what any of this is about :o
I'm a bit vague on that too, but apparently the objective is to get a bunch of people together so that the teams are about of equal total skill level (if you gave everyone a number).
I would actually call these six teams "overbalanced:"
How do you mean - stronger, weaker, obvious that there was a semiconscious effort to keep teams from having two or more players with an insane amount of skill on them...?
Being honest, I can see why I was paired up with Thlayli.
Because it's the sort of thing that I found amusing at 3:30 in the morning in a Vanilla Coke-fueled zombie state?

I'm more curious to find out why D'Artagnan was paired with us. I can't remember ever speaking to the person, and as far as I know neither has Thy.
Wasn't for any particular perceived communications rapport or previous work experience. I only remember talking to Daniel Khan from being his mod for three updates in DaNES, and Perfy was just my neighbor in AFSNES - aside from some extremely primitive, low-level plotting on my part, involving funding, we didn't really work together.

In addition, considering that Symphony asked for comparisions based upon skill level, I'm curious to what Dachs was trying to exactly say by pairing us up, then suddenly throwing a random third person in.
My understanding wasn't that everybody on the same team had to be of roughly equivalent skill level, but that the team as a whole was supposed to be about equal to the other teams. So usually what I'd do was try to balance older or more skilled players with the newer members.

Right said Fred.
You're too sexy for Azale? :p
We have enough people in different timezones to keep it active at all times, which could do a lot to alleviate the boredom I'm sure a lot of NESers feel while the boards are slow.
Now that I finally have a computer of my very own, I now actually can use IRC. So I'll be on a lot more...like right now...when nobody else is on but Chieftess...:(

Re: the people who aren't here anymore - I was going off of the NESer Census, which is old enough to be somewhat defunct I guess. I'll probably edit the list soon.

Why not go any buy a working one.. they are dirt cheap

I would be on #NES, but I forgot the server it was on. That is due to the fact that I'm usually on Lightfang's server since it now hosts fiftychat :p

Main Entry: over·bal·ance

Function: transitive verb
Date: 1608

1 : outweigh 2 : to cause to lose balance

They are stronger than they should be.

They are stronger than they should be.
Funny man.

Except for the last one on the list, I'd probably agree with you, and even then that's only because the last time I really saw how good Swissempire was was about two years ago. Probably not an accurate estimate by now by any means. :p I could explain it away by "opinion", but that wouldn't be very nice.

bummer Dachie put me in a team with people I don't know.
I also thought the teams were supposed to be made up of people with equal skill

If Bird and myself were considered equal to Charles I would leave forever.
