While We Wait: Part 4

Anybody here like Battletech? I've been playing a game on another forum that's lots of fun. If you're stuck waiting for an update, then check it out at http://www.the-frontier.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=144 . If you're a dedicated player who likes to write, then this story-driven game may be right for you.

We've had some troubles with people trying to crash the forum, so for the time being you'll need a current member (me) to vouch for you. Drop me a line if you're interested.

What's up with Abaddon? I was sad to see him leave, but why do you think he has an emotional breakdown?

I think he's going to work on a farm actually, I remember him posting stuff about farms.

Well, in this case, Battletech. Generally, stories are encouraged and we focus on geopolitical and science fiction games. As a whole, the people there take the games a fair bit more seriously, so they can be a little hard to get a to know, but they're good people and they're great players.

Shoehorn anime title into Western TV show and/or movie. A few of them (Azumanga Blood Diamond and The Fast and the Furi Kuri specifically, though Supercross: Do You Remember Love? sounds like an anime [beating a rogue AI with dirtbikes and music? sounds like Japan to me]) might be entertaining. I find the idea of Bruce Willis being Tuxedo Mask to also be hilarious.

Most of those sound like they could find a market in Japan. A select few might also succeed in America, though we have a regrettably lower tolerance for batshi*t craziness.

I just got a really strange pm:

hah WTH?? Whats with that??

Apparently, so is Pyrrhos of Epeiros; I've gotten a few of these. :p The ones reproduced below are only half of what I've been getting; it's been going on for two days. I've been sort of nonplussed, and apparently ignoring doesn't work. I also think that it's scary that silver and I use the same skin.

Also, Symphony: whut.
Looks like predatory trolling, I'd report them to the mods and have them track down the sender.

I understand them PMing silver, but why dachs?!?! :p

With no posts, a June start date, lots of pms being sent, and 'Kayleigh' as a 'real' name, it send up all kinds of red flags.

@Symphony D., please acknowledge this post with the info you requested, which I compiled at great expense :)

This was generated awhile ago, but it serves as a pretty good example of what happens when you become terminally bored:

I'm trying to think of one for Ghost in the Shell :)

@Fulton, my elder brother had one of the role-playing books, about 15 years ago i think. I liked the pictures :) I'm more interested in Mechwarrior due to the PC games. Around 1995 I got a 100mhz PC with an actual sound cared, Mechwarrior 2 was one of the first games I played on it, and I was much impressed. That and Terminal Velocity too. Way better than the Amiga games I mostly played till then :)

PS what happened to your avatar?

Maybe he's spending time with all those girls he posted pictures of. I hope he's not gone for good.

When you say emotional breakdown, did he post something somewhere to give that impression?

I'm kind of mystified how my Skill stayed at 4 despite having like 3 times the experience of all other listed contemporaries, but I do like the abilities list.

Hint 1: Patrick Swayze. Hint 2: Difficult to make distinctive.

Anybody here like Battletech?

I thought it was dead.

I used to play with a whole lot of different PbEMs, particularly this one called The Wrecking Crew. Those were pretty fun times :D

I've got a whole pile of sourcebooks on pdf and usually steal bits when I could for sci-fi NESes

@Daftpanzer,
The world is still the same, no matter how you slice it, though we play it differently. We also have the option of multiple players for states, so that one person can handle stories only, or one can handle budgets and military orders only, etc. So if you're interested in just writing about MechWarriors duking it out in battle or in an arena, you can find a way. Take a look if you like. But remember to tell me if you're interested.

As for an avatar, I've never used one on any forum.

@BananaLee,
While classic battletech has been discontinued, we continue to play it as a story-heavy geopolitical game. The main difference is that the Federated Commonwealth never formed, so things are more equal.

Cool. Well, I had a poke in and I don't thikn I'd have time in that sort of game. Heavy RPing has never been my forte, and for dirty math I have this little project I'm working on. :D
Have you played in other PbEMs and stuff before? Say, Mac and Leander's Solaris 7 game?

EDIT: It's still there!!! http://sml.ff55.net

He is moving in with a girl right now. But my question was for Shadowbound, of some reason he thought that was the case.

Nevertheless, I will be gone for seven days, and I will not be online on these forums in that time. I will celebrate my birthday in the meanwhile, however, and will be having a half-hearted, spamming, terribly writing comeback whenever I end up logging on here again. I hope that somebody remembers my birthday... :mischief: *cough8thcough*

Buhbye for seven days! :wavey:

Aren't you the 'Fulton' I know from NESlife, creator of the Zeeboo plants? I seem to remember a firebat avatar from Starcraft.

I think there was some kind of issue with the dates when generals were supposed to reach their maximum skill. Some of the leaders I added later on may have had more time to gain skill levels. I was basically editing the save game without knowing exactly what some of the values were meant to do :)

Daftpanzer,
Yes, I am the creator of the Zeeboo. But I've never had an avatar, ever, on any forum.

I am wondering, what can I do to draw more attention to my NES? That first update is small, only because there's nothing really that's happened to write about. How can I get people interested in it so it can make some good stories? I've tried to give the beginnings of story lines in that first update, but it seems no one is really into it. Is it just the theme, or is it because people don't like to write, or is it because they don't trust me, or is it because they're just too busy or what? Please, info would be helpful, I just tried to keep it simple to attract more people, but seems to have not worked very well.

Well, I just don't like the setting. I guess that's all that needs to be said... :(

There just seems to be alot of story driven NESs right now. The problem is that not too many people seem interested to keep them active enough. With Abaddon gone, many people on vacation, and many people modding their own NESs it seems like there just aren't that many people playing NESs like Whitethorne.
