While We Wait: Part 5

I guess I'm just a really popular guy. :p

I actually didn't see your post :p I just assumed that if moose has been to the Grand Canyon, he would see the economic ramifications and externalities more easily. :)

I've got a better idea: annex Canada. There's loads of uranium there, and they certainly don't want it. It being Canada. :p

We should really be drilling for uranium in our less notable canyons first. :p

Or supply alex994 with his water; he's already crazy enough as it is :mischief:

I will be willing to vote for anyone who advocates a Manhattan Project-esque thing for fusion power. Just sayin.

The first step to a successful Manhattan Project is correctly spelling Manhattan. I'm not just being a spelling Nazi...our physicists will get legitimately confused. :p

I blame Firefox's spellcheck defaulting to Dutch.

So we can beat our heads against the whole issue of 'running a tokamak requires more power than it outputs' some more? Sounds like loads and loads of fun to me, sign me up. :p

it's speculation that this is "unrealistic" which is annoying the living hell out of me.

Technically, that was not criticism of your modding but of Masada's writing. I did allow that it was within the realm of possibility in any case.

EDIT:

From an earlier post:
North King said:
I submit that the Marxist Leninists have no clue what they are talking about in most things, and that the pure idea of historical materialism is inherently and immensely flawed.

Be that as it may be, I'm afraid that in this case it's quite right. Don't tell me you seriously mean that a foreign play in a foreign language was even a major catalyst behind several major slave rebellions in an agrarian empire. If you do seriously mean that, I would very much like to know how do you see that happening. No criticism intended, mind you. This is merely an expression of incredulity.

Who said major in either case? Not I. Did the event seriously change the outcome of the update? No. Are there massive blobs of rebellion on the map in Hu'ut? No. So what are you basing this on? Yes, it did act as a factor in increase restiveness in Hu'ut, but it and it alone did not "cause" a slave rebellion.

(And since when has a work being in a foreign language been a serious barrier to its transmission?)

Whereas if we don't try building better ones...we'll just magically end up with fusion power?
And other than the fact that both ITER and DEMO are more or less built on the idea that "bigger scale + better technology => results!"

It's probably wishful thinking on my part to link the two but I will note that although I never got a response from either Obama, or Gore, sometime after when I sent my letter he (Obama) recanted his proposal to get funds for education reform by slashing the NASA budget, and instead vowed to keep it where it was--that was before the economic bust, but still.

You guys should just buy your Unranium from us.... After all we own the vast majority of this resource in Australia and only have two nuclear reactors in the entire country.

You are aware ore mining results in mineral leeching into the water table, right? And you are aware that uranium is radioactive and hazardous in the extreme to human health? And you are aware that the Colorado River is the source of water for 25 million people? And you are aware that several of these mines are under a dozen miles from the canyon? And you are aware that the US Park Service is still cleaning up and monitoring the residue from past uranium mining efforts so they don't poison the river?

Yes? Good, then kindly keep your keen grasp of the situation to yourself, unless you'd be alright with someone pouring a thimble full of mercury into every beverage you drink for the rest of your life (it's a really small amount, it won't hurt much!) because you don't know what the hell you're talking about and your ignorance is stunning and grotesque.

Thank god Obama has lawyers planning out how to reverse this stupidity.

I find your lack of confidence in our modern mining capabilities shockingly ignorant. We have, with the proper funding, plenty of technological know how to keep things like this from happening.

I find your overconfidence in our modern mining capabilities shockingly disturbing. A little mishap and basically all of Southern California will suffer as a result of it (and other places, but those places aren't as important).

Plus, it is really necessary to mine uranium in the GRAND CANYON?

Which is why large parts of Montana have hazardous levels of cyanide leaching into the aquifers. Because modern mining is super-advanced, and companies definitely don't use the cheapest methods whenever possible and abuse the hell out of the environment if there isn't sufficient legislation or enforcement to crack down on them!

Canada is closer and they're our economic colony anyway. The downside is that we'd get more Degrassi, which is truly a vile consequence.

Yes, under cheap and poorly supervised mining companies this happens. I never said to allow such methods to be used. If we mine, it must be watched over carefully and have proper funding to keep things safe. Way to jump the gun.

We unfortunately, have to watch Degrassi almost every week in Health class. Which would in your case be hell. As for me, I'm okay with it, but it is certainly not in my top 1/2 of TV shows.
Apparently jeps knows more people who act on Degrassi than he does viewers of the TV show, and he's Canadian. Excellent measure of the show as a whole, I think.
