While We Wait: The Next Generation

Hmm I don't think much of Nostradamus. Though he had a spookily good prediction of Napoleon IIRC.

We make our own destiny! But what I'm refering to with this financial stuff is forecasts by professionals, http://www.trendsresearch.com/ and all that.

Most of the "predictions" were events retrofitted into his poems so all of them are accurate in retrospect.

And a person who puts on his website: -

Gerald Celente, trend expert, visionary, keynote speaker, is trusted worldwide as the foremost authority on forecasting, analyzing and tracking trends. Celente is publisher of the Trends Journal® and author of Trends 2000 and Trend Tracking (Warner Books).

In rubbish font with heaps of advertising, you know something's wrong. That, and the comparison to Nostradamus was a dead giveaway

I also typed "Trends research institute" into google and the first suggestion was "trends research institute scam"

Spoiler Don't believe me ask the dishes :

Nostradamus is pretty funny too. You should just read the cantos without the annoying commentary (well, maybe for some of the less dubious symbols). I really like the bit about Armenians besieging Vienna.

EDIT:

What if the colonies of the Solar Federation lost all contact with Sol?

What indeed.

A few things about the Apocalypse/Mayan/Nostradamus stuff:

1. The new BS episode was about the Mayan junk, it was pretty good!
2. Some of the Mayan junk gets some weird branch off theories connected to it, like Planet X.
3. Everything leads back to Nostradamus.

Hmm well I really hope all your passive complacency works out for the future :p

IMO its not looking too good. I'm not talking about any mystic 2012 weirdness.

Hi guiz. I don't mean to disregard Darkening's game but I want to raise another issue here. Recently I've been reading about the expected collapse of commercial real estate market in the USA, which is finally going to burst the bubble and lead to the worst economic depression ever throughout the world, followed by mass riots and etc, all happening by 2010, so it says on the internets. I was wondering if any socio-economically-minded NESers can comment on this?

I should probably be posing this in OT or whatever, but it would be like talking to strangers :scared:
The RE bubble has already burst and we have survived even if we are a bit poorer for it.

Erm I think there might be some misunderstanding, daftpanzer is talking about the commercial part. The RE bubble that has already burst has been largely that of residential properties. The commercial real estate market isn't exactly doing so well either and it's likely that negative returns there will slightly hinder the return to normal. Living in a nice little part of Southern California, I was pretty surprised when a brand new plaza was completed and opened to the public.

With eight to nine shops rented out, out of a possible 40-45.

Meh, what do I care? Mexico, here I come!! :p

@alex994 yeah that is what I meant. From what I read, this commerical real estate collapse is supposed to be much worse than the sub-prime etc, especially now businesses are struggling in general. Supposedly an even bigger bubble has been created by all the bailouts etc. What's worse than 1929 is that the USA is not the same industrial powerhouse, and already has huge deficits instead of having budget/trade surplusses. Not being an economist myself, I wondered if anyone here had any insights on this. Guess we'll just have to wait and see :)

EDIT: @Nylan you don't need to go anywhere, Mexico is coming to you!

Reading about the impending, inevitable, overhyped and rather improbable collapse of Western society is a very gratifying experience when you are not strictly speaking part of it. :p

Yea but when we collapse you'll still be in Russia. Who has the last laugh now? :mwaha:

Although I could go for a good ol' Russian cold snap right about now.
