As it is in a way a never-ending story in its own right, I'm curious if any of you have seen the long-term Civ 2 game that's getting talked about today?

God that it awesome. I can't describe the emotions I felt when reading that. :D

I don't mean to sound *insert word here*, but my first reaction to seeing this on reddit was pretty much

he is an immature player.

No mature player would have let an ordinary game of Civ2 to evolve into this mess in the first place. I am willing to bet 10 to 1, that any of our regular GOTM players can turn this game around by breaking the 1700-turn stalemate in less than 100 turns.

Another interesting thing is how many people are giving Lycerius advice (not all of which is good). Many start by saying that they used to be serious Civ2 players, but have not played in quite some time.

No offense, but this is one of those times where the hype seems completely unjustified to me (edit: quite, indeed, rather). Quite overblown; there's even an article on HuffingtonPost about it.
 
Also, should we set up some rough times for Lucky's campaign. lj and terrance haven't gotten to play yet (and we're frequently 1-).

Honestly, it might not be as hard to beat as he makes it out to be, but it got me with the nostalgia factor.
 
The point is not that it's a difficult game, it's that it's an interesting game. I'm not good at Civ, but I'll still comment on some of the games I play, because despite the low difficulty level I get good storylines out of it.

BTW, on the weekends I am hosting an all nighter DMing Keep of the Shadowfell and the follow up campaign (which WOULD be all-original). I will try to get updates and orders in before then. :D
 
I hope to get in tomorrow on the DD game, but there's a good chance I can't make it... Depends on what my friend wants to do that night.
 
Is this a game being hosted in real life or over the internet? Sorry for the confusion, just asking out of curiosity.

Also: I can't tell if I'm an alcoholic, or I just like mixing myself drinks. Is that bad? :p
 
It's fun. I just started my first game this summer, and am enjoying it quite alot (though, probably, that's the people as much as the Game itself.)
 
If you lived in Ohio I might cue you in. An NPC Gnoll "Warlock" got coopted into the party. :p

My game is a RL game.
 
Tempted to dust off my Celtonia Civ3 game with all this Eternal War business. It was my Story & Tale that was noticed by das and led me into NESing. I still have save games, lots of notes and screenshots. My thread died before I'd written about the end of the second world war, but I'd already played on through WW3 involving modern weapons, and then a chaotic future age of everyone fighting everyone and massive global genocide due to all AI's turning Fascist, plus a few nuclear attacks :)

Unlike that civ2 game though, there is no global warming, and the AI's were only getting weaker and weaker due to Fascism and constant fighting. Even when I decided to roleplay a collapse of Celtonia and give the AI's a whole load of cities, I'd have a long and boring wait before any real threat emerged, as they still have to build up their armies and population. Its interesting, though - Lycerius would have to be the Celts :)

Edit: And no Thomas I don't think that makes you an alcoholic, I'm the same way with tasty craft beers. In fact i just finished off a very good Rogue Chocolate Stout.
 
Rogue? I don't beleive I know it. (The name is familiar, but... only just)

Also: Montreal just had it's International Beer Festival. A hell of a lot of fun, alot of really interesting beers.
 
They're the guys that make Dead Guy Ale. They are very high up on my list of good brewers.
