Who-2_eldar_1340AD0000.JPG

The Western Caravel is going, well, west, to try and get the circumnavigation bonus. We missed out out getting Divine Right and Islam, so I switched straight to Paper->Education. We needs Unis. After that, Astronomy, for (a) overseas trade, (b) Observatories.

Builder turns for Eldar and the next player because I need a skip till Sunday. Tonight is not possible but I will be baaaack!

I think it's my turn, then. I'll take it tomorrow.

Do we want to consider a war with someone (probably Cyrus) or are we content on our island by ourselves? And what victory do we want to go for?
I doubt we're anywhere near cultural, I don't know how happy the AIs are with us, so either Conquest/Domination, Space (just got a Space win in a solo game, though), or Score (take too long).

Sorry for the delay. I was having trouble getting Autologger set up. As you can see, though, I got it working. :)

Turn 194 (1340 AD)
Guangzhou grows: 8
Nanjing grows: 7

Tianjin's borders expand
Monty demands Maps from us. I decide to give in...but realize my mistake right after, since he can't reach us anyway, I don't think...

So now a question. I think I already know the answer, but just wanted to check. The Great Scientist can research Education. Do we use Al-Khwarizmi on that (we'd probably have around 5 turns of research instead of 14), or do we build another Academy instead (Guangzhou is making 18 beakers now)? I think we should get Edu and trade it around (there's Music and Divine Right available). Those people with Music and DR already had Paper, so they're probably researching Education, too.

Music and DR aren't required techs - and don't give anything useful, except by first discovery, so using Edu to get them is pointless. However - we need Edu for the Unis. So use the Scientist on that.

I am rather partial to the longer term benefits of an Academy in a strong beaker town myself. Education will come along nicely as we need it. I am slowly learning the benefits of true specialization in this game.

I chose to build an Academy mainly because of the fact that that we still have over 200 turns left in this game, and even if we make just 8 or 9 extra beakers per turn from the Academy, we will still get more overall than with the 1600 beakers put towards Education.

And it seems that most of my entries I made manully didn't show up in the log, so I'll have to write down some stuff from memory...

Turn 198 (1380 AD)
Guangzhou finishes: Academy

Tech learned: Music
Beijing grows: 9
Shanghai finishes: Courthouse
Guangzhou grows: 9
Nanjing finishes: Courthouse

Chengdu finishes: Courthouse

Trade Sheep to Roosevelt for Cows around this turn.

Turn 204 (1440 AD)
Shanghai begins: Theatre
Nanjing begins: Barracks
Chengdu begins: Harbor
Hangzhou begins: Courthouse
Roosevelt asks us to cancel all deals with Monty, and since that was just an Open Borders agreement, I agree. Monty's not too happy about it, but Roosevelt's our greatest ally and I'd rather make him more of a friend than keeping a deal with Monty, who hasn't exactly been the nicest neighbor...

Turn 205 (1450 AD)
8 turns left for Education.

With the jumbling of the lineup I think we need a roster check.
Eldar - up
Whomp - On deck

Ah. My go. Oops. Nearly... 3am. tomorrow. Thursday is... someone might work it out ;) Friday-Tuesday, down at my folks for festivities (Vanilla Civ3 + Warcraft 3 on the Powerbook being my only entertainment... )

Dood...you're soooo...whompish. :D

Dang. I didn't get an email notification of the post... so I haven't played :( I won't be able to play now 'til the 27th/28th so consider me skipped 'til then.

Also I am now on 1.52, I presume everyone else will be sooner rather than later?

SW I think it will prompt you patch it when you load the game.

Summary
I forgot to wake the great scientist one turn earlier. I woke him and had him discover printing press, a expensive tech so we may have some trading opportunities coming up. We're very weak militarily but it seems Monte and Saladin are the only ones we could have a problem with. BTW what's up with Monte? He won't even talk. Anger management issues.

The picture I took was a little big to post so here it is in attachment form.
