Who-2 Keith goes to the Moon.

Alright, my turn. And just in time, too...:mischief: ...because I finally got a new video card! Works great, too. Little slow, but I've only got 512 MB RAM, so it's to be expected. Certainly better than it was, though. I finally got to finish my first game I started but couldn't finish because it kept CTDing.
It turns out the next turn I would win by Diplomatic. :)

I'll play tomorrow.

Ah sheez... sorry IP I've got some serious mental issues....:scan:

Pre-turn – I decide to keep Hanging Gardens. I notice a galley heading clockwise around the continent, but it seems like it will be blocked by glaciers. Some ice is still covered in Fog, though, so I’ll keep it moving that way on the off-chance that there is a path.

2 cities have angry citizens. The only happiness resources we haven’t hooked up yet are silver and furs, both pretty far south.

125 (1) – Just moving units.

100 (2) – Guangzhou’s borders expand. Find some more barbs to the south by Nanjing. There is no way the galley can pass through the ice, so I send him back the other way.

IBT – The barb archer attacks our axeman and dies.
Compass comes in, automatically start on metal casting.

75 (3) – Axeman heals for 3 turns. Metal Casting is due in 18 turns (had to turn down science to 80%)…there are cheaper techs, but other than Currency (16 turns), none would help nearly as much as MC, so I decide just to keep at it.

50 (4) – Since we have no state religion and probably won’t for some time, I switch out of Organized Religion since it’s costing us 3 gpt, and we get 1 turn of anarchy.

25 BC (5) – We are back under control…that was quick. And we now make 3 gpt instead of breaking even.

1 AD (6) – A warrior returns to Guangzhou, making the citizens happy again.

25 AD (7) – A barb appears by Guangzhou. I send the warrior from Beijing to help so we don’t have the same problem as Nanjing. Then I realize it’s an axeman (!) so I send a sword from Nanjing to help. I also decide to rush an axeman in Shanghai for 2 pop (although, since one is an angry citizen, it’s really only costing 1 pop…). Unhappiness will last for 10 turns, so I set the city to grow in 13.

IBT – The Parthenon is built in a faraway land…

50 (8) –

75 (9) -

IBT – The axeman takes no damage killing one of our warriors. The axeman I rushed won’t arrive for another turn, so we will have to retake Guangzhou.
An archer barb appears south of Beijing.

100 (10) – Well, Guanzhou is almost certainly going to be captured. Sorry. :( An axeman is right next to the city. He has a promotion I haven’t used yet. Next person can either choose Combat I (if he’s attacked this turn, he’ll have a better chance of surviving), or City Raider I to retake the city. A sword is also coming to help. He also has an unused promotion.

Metal Casting is due in 10, and the Hanging Gardens will finish in 4.

The Monk has it. Looks like luxuries and barb killing are the order of the day.

Bede played whack a barb

Turn 129 (350 AD)
Beijing finishes: Settler

Turn 130 (375 AD)
Beijing begins: Worker
Settler is heading south to meet an escort in what appears to be a barbarian free environment, at least for now. There is a sword vectored in to meet him. We really need to get the furs and silver in the inventory to get our people happy!

2.jpg

We need at least four more towns: two for access to the silver and marble and furs in the south an two to control the northern peninsula. We could also use another one to exploit the horses. We also need more miilitary even though we are alone. New towns will help suppress the barbarians but they do tend to keep coming.

Christianity was founded somewhere along in there and I think the only religion left is Islam. We may want to make an attempt to go after it for the happiness benefit.

It appears we are well situated to make a space ship effort as we don't have to spend resources for more than a cardboard cutout military. It would be nice to have some mounted forces to track the oppopnent's ships when they show up. IIRC I lost a city to amphibious attack once so a mobile defense force would be just the ticket.

Mr Warrior is in the hot seat, that be you!, I think.

Seems I've been negligent in my roster duties so...

Eldar--
Whomp--
Pliskenator--
The Grumpy Old Monk-- just went and played "pop a barb".
Soul Jive -- Up and at 'em

well, good to know.
hopefully i will have time to play tonight.

RL commands that i go to work till friday night (double shifts).

1 - 400ad - barbs to the east. move some units.

3 - 450ad - kill a barb archer, defending with a sword. almost lose it.
XIAN is built and set for forge.

4 - 475ad - Nanjing defends and kills a barb archer. it also completes a lighthouse and starts a settler.
Homer is born faraway.

5 - 500ad - Beijing worker > settler. Shanghai settler > harbor.

6 - 525ad -

7 - 540ad - Guangzhu lighthouse > sword.
Chengzu is built (near northern iron) > lighthouse.
sci rate is lowered to 80% to minimize cashflow problems.

8 - 560ad - fogbusting, as i really dont need so much excitement.

9 - 580ad - more fogbusting. a sword goes east to hunt some ear necklaces.
Civ4ScreenShot0009.jpg

10 - 600ad - Guangdzu wants a library, i put it on queue.

just the world in general
Civ4ScreenShot0010.jpg

and that silver town i neglected.
Civ4ScreenShot0011.jpg

Bro, you missed both the sheep and the marble (useful for those really big buildings).

And if Bigfootze shifts to right on top od the silver I think we will get the benefit without either a mine or a road as long as that spot is on the river bank.

800AD. We're alone, apart from the barbarians.... We have Swordsmen with City Raider Promotions?! I'd rather have Axemen - they work far better vs. other Axes, and Swords. Having said that, the Axe I was sending to cover Hangzhou got mugged en route, however the aforementioned City Raider I Sword is there to cover. The Axe being built in Nanjing will get rid of the unhappiness there.

Machinery in. Maybe convert some of those Cottages by Beijing to Watermills.

Hired a couple of Scientists in Shanghai to speed up Optics, and also start growing some GPPs.

Obelisks in favour of other buildings. We still haven't pulled in the Fish (and we have health issues), we need the Furs (hence Hangzhou), and please no more unescorted settlers!

What to research after Optics?

Who2-Hangzhou0000.JPG

I got it. I'd think we work on some health related techs next or beeline to astro.

Turn 160 (1000 AD)

Since we're building obliesks we can't start calendar since they'll obsolete. I tried drama just in case we can beat everyone to it there's a great artist and a lux slider. I wasn't sure which spot gets the settler. On the silver or NW of the silver? I had to wait for some units to appear since our axeman fought off that barb that way we're not running naked into barbs. I started some watermills on FP's near Beijing. The mapmaker didn't give us much lux so let's get those furs hooked up.

To the next player I fortified the Axeman and let the barb attack so unfortify him and let him heal

Civ4ScreenShot00014.JPG

Great Artist comes with Music; the AIs seem to go for that a lot, so I wouldn't bother. The Lux slider is something I've never used, except to finish of Culture wins. I think the Obelisk in Beijing was a bit of overkill though.... though admittedly Calendar is of no use to us because we have no resources that need plantations and it's fairly obvious where we are on the map.

If we want to change drama as Eldar suggests that's fine. I would not go calendar though since the obliesks are just finishing. Stupid me on the Beijing one. Duh.
