well this is the problem.. the real world is a much more comple version of civ with many different mechanisms and a much better espionage sytem.
when you think about it.. half the governments in the smaller coutries around the world are either loyal to the u.s. or controlled by the u.s. through puppets, the cia is notorious for setting up sham leaders that are loyal to the u.s., it's what we do, it allows the country to remain a sovereign nation and the people and country remain stable because they keep there country.. yet the united states gets what it wants.. the land, resources, and cooperation.
so even tho the united states is confined to 'our' chunk.. we have a semi-vassal system done through espionage that actually puts us much closer to the domination win then people think lol
also russia.. last time i heard they found some passge linking there country to the artic so as current law states they are trying to claim the artic as there own and tried to claim the antarctic at the same time.. while they are pulling out of all kinds of nato deals and putting troops on the borders and making threats..
i think someone is gonna have to be put in there place lol.. we also have the technological lead and are closest to the space race lol
also the diplomatic.. because as you all know the easiest way to get a diplomatic win is to just make everyone your dog
and force there vote..
on a side note.. i'd love to have brazil in the game.. especially all those beautiful women i see, i think the first female units should be brazilian merchant specialists.. i love a woman in a suit, so hot..

Maybe we did lose the 'domination' win, but we know when to use "there" and when to use "their"

I deplore nationalism, but in Poland's case, I would say that it is quite justified, given their brutal history. I can't think of a Nation on earth that has had it quite as bad as the Polish for the last 400+ odd years.
Their fate was especially cruel at the hands of the Russians, which is why the comment about West Russia in the poll is terribly offensive, even to I who am not Polish.
Their nationalism, then, is quite forgivable. Who can blame them for desiring a strong national identity when their entire nation was systematically plundered and razed by the Nazis, all teachers/leftists/intellectuals murdered by the Nazis. Then, just as the Red Army approached Poland, they advised the Polish Underground to rise up against the nazis, and that they would recieve help from the Red Army. Instead, the Red Army sat on their bums and let the Polish Resistance be slaughtered by the Nazis, knowing that this way the Polish resistance would not be able to Oppose the coming Communist dictatorship which Moscow would impose on the Poles. For the next 50 years, the poles would live in a Communist police state.
Not to mention the fact that all of Poland's "allies" stood by and allowed this to happen so as not to anger their WWII allies the Soviets. If I were a Pole, I would hate and mistrust foreigners also.
Whoever made that "West Russia" comment is truly ignorant and should be ashamed of themselves.

Just because they were treated badly doesn't justify blind nationalism. If you'll remember, after Germany lost WW1 they were treated terribly and not allowed to recover economicly by the allies, leading to a state of blind nationalism and desperation. This allowed the country to be easilly swayed by Hitler into becomming the Nazi Germany of WW2. Being treated badly after losing a war does NOT justify blind nationalism, just look what can happen...

Rather than condoning nationalism (which at the top of my post I said I did not), my point was to explain why Poland is so nationalistic, and why the west russia comment (or the later east-germany comment which is even worse) was so insulting. Also, if we here in USA or Britain or France want to blame Poland for their nationalism, perhaps we should look in the mirror to see how we contributed to that nationalism by abandoning them after the war. Just like how we are also responsible for Germany's ultra-nationalism after WWI, due to the unbearable economic penalties imposed on them by the treaty of Versailles.
We here in the west have the most stunning capacity for ignorance when it comes to our own complicity in the injustices of the world.

Vietnam and Korea both have long and extremely interesting histories of fighting protracted guerrilla warfare against their larger neighbors, usually China. That is one reason why Americans did so poorly in vietnam... the Vietnamese have been defending their country against larger militaries almost nonstop for thousands of years. America (as usual) completely failed to take even a cursory glance at Vietnamese history before rushing in headlong, guns blazing. Vietnam aside, I am continually amazed that there is even a culture and language known as Korea considering where they sit on the map.
But in comparison to Poland, I would say that while Vietnam has been around much longer than Poland, in the last few centuries (to my limited knowledge) Vietnam has never been completely overrun as has Poland. If I am mistaken about this, pleas don't hesitate to correct me. While Vietnam has a long history of repelling foreign aggression, they have not, in my recollection, been completely overrun and utterly destroyed. Even in the American conflict, the level of destruction was not as methodical as in Poland, where over a period of 5 years, the Nazi government first plundered all the riches of Poland, then destroyed their museums, palaces, businesses, and infrastructure (for no reason besides spite), then murdered all: Jews, Gypsies, Homosexuals, Teachers, Politicians, Military leaders, Intellectuals, handicapped people, the list goes on.
The only country to have similar suffering would be Cambodia, but it was Cambodians who did it to them so it doesn't count for this discussion.
p.s. very cool of Vietnam to step in and end the Khmer Rouge.

^Chinese pretty much destroyed our ancient culture. 1000 years of rule gets you kinda edgy when someone tries to invade you. not to mention that china invades us at least once each century.
Poland wasn't "utterly destroyed", if I am correct. ruled over by foreign empires, but not "destroyed"; attempted assimiliation, i think, would serve a better term. if so, Vietnam was not so different when France took over - they tried to wipe our culture out, or at least make it more "French-like". thats why Vietnamese like eating French bread sandwhiches to this day, even the commoners.
