neither combatant accused the other side of actually starting the war, without a valid claim of self defense war cant be justified

I say they were both justified in that war kills people and they got the fruit of their labor.

This is a strange use of the word justified.

But still:

"They that sow the wind, shall reap the whirlwind"

i do not comprehend this sentence.

What is war for? Is there a difference between defending one's self and conquering your next door neighbor? It seems to me that both sides were just fighting for no reason at all. Neither were defending and neither were gaining ground. All you are going to get is a bunch of dead people.

The title said whose side is justified, but the pole says who has the higher moral ground? There is a difference. In this scenario the end justifies the war. Plainly, just killing people for no reason at all.

It seems to me that the cartoonist is lampooning the increasingly dubious modern reasons for justifying war - "...ignoring certain parameters", "...establishing hegemony", and "...according to some metrics." These apear as overly-convoluted spin arguments for regime apologists, not actual reasons for fighting.

I agree with History Buff, neither side is justified.

There's nothing modern about those reasons.

That's a cop-out. Pick the lesser evil.

There's nothing modern about those reasons.

Know any good books about market-oriented economies and globalization before the modern era?

Why pick either if they're both evil?

Dismissing them both as evil is easy and doesn't make for an interesting discussion.

Yes, and the point of this thread is which lame justification was the least crappy.
