Why Are We Baiting Putin?

Damn i forgot about that, i remember seeing him in a Judo suit on TV some years ago. You are right.

Well what about china or japan's prime minister i'm sure they have some tricks too?

He accused the US of hypocrisy over its criticism of Russia's patchy human rights record.
And rightfully so. This administration pissed away any claims to the moral high ground....it will take years and years to repair the damage W has done in this respect....and many others to boot.

We might end up like the British Empire

You mean a despotic tyranny turned into a society where there is a minimum wage, minimum standard of living, free health care and the 4th biggest economy in a country with only 60 million people?

This is a bad thing? How?

The leader of China is an engineer. Nor does he look particularly fit.

Japan's leader. Hmm...Haven't heard anything about his martial abilities. However, my Japanese friends assure me that his granddad was a yakuza (Japanese mafia). There may be some hope there.

Seems like there isn't a decent diplomat in the whole White House. I think the Secretary of State needs to play Civ4, because as every player can guess, when you're involved in one war, you don't goad another player into war with you as well.

Oh, and I nearly had a seizure because it was the first time I agreed with Pat Buchanan.

When exactly did you, Commy, start listening to Pat Buchanan?

He makes a good argument in this article.

I am not fond of the man, but when someone can argue a point well enough, its cool.

I think the point Buchanan is making is that there is no British 'empire' any more. They aren't number 1 and have but a few scattered islands around the world. Compare that to 100 years ago and you'll notice quite a difference.

Russian holy emperor Vladimir Putin the First and his speach, as well as the US comments, are nothing new. Russians will never change.

Wolves, tigers, and bears, blah. Gov't <---> Corporate corruption in Russia is skyrocketing on Putin's watch, and he's taking his country back in time. Not good for the people & the neighbors of Russia, nor their path towards a free market capitalism society of prosperity.

But, whatever. We'll deal with it. Russia (corruption and all), is resource rich, and is growing economically. Thus, there's money to be made. Heck, I invest there. But, it would be nice if they'd play the game a little less Soviet-style... that's all Cheney (and the rest of us) are trying to say. Don't take it personally. But, he's smart. Probaly didn't. He's probably just doing this publicly, to defend the Russian national pride w/ the people. Behind the scenes... wheelin' & dealin'.
