Why Haven't You Volunteered For Military Service? #2

From the OP:
...<Snip>...

I am too weak, my body can't handle physical military training.
I would just like to say for 75% of these comments these are bull. There are still service members with blown off limbs, missing fingers, toes, and other appendages, that still contribute to the overall effectiveness to the U.S. Army.

Much of your reasoning in the regards to this statement is invalid. When I was in (the 90's) they wouldn't accept people with certain disabilities. A friend of mine wasn't able to extend his arm all the way so he received a medical discharge while in basic training. Granted, that was during my time and with the current situation things might have changed.

Now regarding the quoted statement above, I agree with you. One of the guys that went through basic with me could barely do the required ten pushups when he joined. He was very weak and extremely out of shape. He wasn't by the time basic was completed.

I can't stand someone telling me what to do.
Then you can't work as a team, and unless you become a self-made millionaire, good luck with life.

The above is bogus as well. There is a difference in how the military is run and civilian life. Big difference. Until you've [the general sense, not entirely directed at you] done both for a significant period of time, you're not going to realize it. I agree that not following what someone tells you can significantly hurt your career, but it appears you're taking it to the extreme.

Without someone else, unless you are "Neo" as an "Anomoly" you will amount to nothing.

I disagree. There are a lot of self-made people out there who did it on their own, or mostly on their own. It was their own hard work and determination that got them where they are. The numbers are high enough that it isn't considered an anomoly either.

I don't believe in the nation's current war.
Again, a military mentality. It does not matter if you believe in the war or not. Most people it seems do not believe in the Iraq/Afghanistan war, but they still support our troops.

This I agree with. I can't stand watching people boo our troops (especially fellow Americans). It's not the soldiers faults. It's their jobs! We do what we do because we are ordered it. Unless you've been in the military though, people have trouble understanding it. Too many people think you have a choice and can just say no. They're idiots! It's the military. If you don't do what you're told there is a chance you will go to jail for it. Things are done differently there. If you don't like what's going on, don't blame it on the soldiers. I can't stand that. I wish they'd learn more about what they're complaining about.

I did three years National Guard and three years active duty, so six years total. I honestly didn't like it and would never do it again, but in all honesty, I think everyone should do at least two years. I'm not saying making it a law, I'm just suggesting people should give it a try. You'd be amazed at what you could learn from it.

I'm doing my bit in the Canadian military, but I think my parents and friends would murder me if I volunteered for service in Afghanistan. I could talk myself into going, I think, in terms of risk to myself, but not in terms of inflicting my loss on people who love me.

i actually wanted to join the u.s army but my mother is a devout muslim and was completely against the idea, and my dad thought it was a bad idea plain and simple but another big factor as to why i wont sign up ( im still not 18) is because i probably will lose my egyptian citizenship if i do.

Hell no I wont go to Iraq!!

You couldn't if you wanted to. From reading your posts, you are clearly unfit in a dozen different ways. The military has tests and standards specifically to exclude people like you.

Isn't "I don't want to" a good reason to not to go? After all, you have to be a volunteer to join the army, and there's no point to have soldiers who don't want to fight in Iraq.

I don't like imperialist wars of aggression (the part about invading Iraq for oil, for one). So joining the army would be helping in said imperialist wars of aggression. Get back to me when the government is actually waging a war that isn't just part of empire building

a) I could make more money private sector
b) There are more GIRLS in civilian life you're allowed to go after
c)I don't want to opress a people by taking away their sovreignity
d)The only army I'd be interested in joining is probably the Mahdi Army.

Being military allowed you to pick up females very easily. Granted, these weren't ones you'd take home to meet the family. Plus, they always knew when you got paid, in case you forgot. I remember the knocks on our doors in the barracks letting us know where the train was.

Oh, the memories.... :old:

Not really. I am clearly fit in the military. My posts do not reflect that I am unfit.

Quit being such a Negative Nancy.

Uhh, yeah, the military really wouldn't want you. Plus you're too smart to be a grunt. You can be a radar navigator. Trust me, the training I would have to do to become fit for the military is insane, I hate running.

I would never join the military under any circumstances (although I'm damn accurate with a gun). I don't like to even kill animals, at this point I could hardly stand having to kill a human for a cause I don't believe in. Not even the airforce, I'm afraid of cocky pilots with nothing to do...

How do you know you are accurate with a real gun/rifle? Real conditions are pretty tough. I top Laser Quest, but I sometimes only barely passed at 100m range.

I'm prone to disagree. If I remember correctly, CG has his degree (though I'm not sure in what) and in my opinion they'd want him for that. Going into the Air Force would probably be good for him, as it IMO is the least hard on you. Most airmen I've met seemed fairly lax for military personnel.

The part I'm unsure about is whether CG could handle the "do as I say and don't question it" part. I honestly believe military service really strengthens a person and wish everyone would do at least two years of service. If you can't handle it, then don't consider it.

I'm thinking about the grunts and cannon fodder. You know the ones on TV with the crewcuts and big guns. Duh Airmen don't ever need to do anything anymore and if they do it's mindblowingly boring (minus the big boom at the end). Yeah, CG could be an engineer or medic or anything else, he just isn't shooting terrorists for lunch. I've handled guns pretty well, I'm really really good at skeet or whatever you call it but I have a 60% hit ratio. Problem is I want absolute gun control so I stick to pretend. I don't even play Call of Duty anymore.
