Why is this connected to Civ3?

I mean what has this little section of the forum got to do with the game?

If we had a more visible section all to our own i imagine we would get more players.

It started as a mutant offshoot of a civ 3 game. But we have enough players at the moment.

But more would always be better surly?

Use the Search, it's there for a reason. We've had several discussions on the future of this forum, moving to OT, moving to Other Games, moving to Civ4, or moving offsite. But a majority is too lazy and stuck in their habits. :p

Yeah, this topic has come up a lot. Still, let's just stay here, since everybody is lazy - -

lazy isnt the issue.. only TF would have to do any work.

Search? what would i search for which would turn up those threads?

TF recently asked me to explain NESing and its connection to Civ. He had been unclear on the matter. Given that, he might now be more inclined to move or link the forum to another location.

I think we should have our own folder, not be a sub-category

The NESing forum in the Colliseum would be very nice and would probably bring in a host of new players.

Are the people in Colosseum all avid about history and enjoy writing? Or would they be the 'play to win' type?

There's been a lot of debate on this in the past, as has been mentioned before.

There are "Play to win" types here, but in a game where without good knowledge/storys you get stomped, i think they would soon learn to play how you would wish.

I dont think you would get people coming and ruining things because the MOD position within a NES still has the final roll of the dice.

Judging by the experience of the NESing community at Apolyton, it seems NESing is much more connected to storytelling than gaming. But then again, I think this community is healthy enough to survive in whatever context it is placed.

As the community began to grow and help the Civ III Story community at Apolyton grow with it, as NESes at CFC did to their story community, the moderators at Apolyton decided that Neverending Stories belonged with diplomacy games more than with stories, the NES community was sent to a small, obscure forum and while some NESes did still grow to reasonable popularity there the community which had already been more exclusive and smaller than CFC's was even more hindered and unable to ever grow to the size of it's CFC counterpart.

We are currently in that small, obscure forum!

Well, the point is that NESing is closely tied to story-telling, more than anything else. CFC is a forum for gamers, those who come here are those who like Civ. Of those gamers, those who would enjoy NESing are those who, apart from gaming, are interested in story-telling (and history of course). So having the NES forums connected to the storytelling forums certainly makes sense to me. Although these days perhaps the Civ4 storytelling forum may be more frequented? I wouldn't know really, maybe that would be a better place to put us.

So what? We work best in this form. A large influx of new players would mean OMGWTFBBQ11!!! disasters.

Very true Cleric, very true.

Pretty much.

In the World History thread, maybe. In all the others... well, let me just say my congnitive dissonance permits me to imagine OT doesn't exist.

Also, do I once more have to go over why the phrase "play to win" is vapid and vaccuous in the context of NESing, or can we all agree to finally stop fraking saying it? Seriously. It's getting really old as an indictment of "certain implied individuals who shall remain unnamed" and it's childish.

This is amongst the largest subforums on CFC. 1,829 threads and 277,879 views rivals anything short of that wasteland OT and the Main Discussion and Creation and Customization threads for Civ III and Civ IV.

I would support a move to Civ IV S&T subforum (not that it would likely be approved) but I would not support a move to All Other Games or Colosseum, as it would quite frankly reduce our notoriety. Also, quite frankly, given the... opinions... of some of the people who frequent OT, and given the already strange new people we seem to attract, I'd argue that for whatever gain of good players we would receive, we'd also receive a much larger number of bad ones.

Higher on the page = good. Lower on the page = bad. Stuck in places with people with goofy ideas = bad. Stuck in small isolated subforum = bad.

Why be a sub forum at all?

By 'play to win' I meant 'play to win in an OOC manner'. I have no problem with people who are successful IC megalomaniacs.
