Another explanation about this "men doesn't listen", could be that men actually DOES listen to what is said and understand it, but not to what the woman think into her head, and which she considers the man should have understood and only missed because he "didn't listen".
Misogynist-but-true rant apart, there is simply a biological difference : men tends to "hear" only with the "rationale" part of their brain, while women do "hear" with both part of the brain, ie the "rationale" and the "emotionnal". As such, men understand the words and the meaning, but have much more difficulties to decypher the undertone, the feelings and the like that is conveyed in their speech.
Additionnally, men tend to "act" while women tend to "communicate. As such, men tend to listen to the problem that the women is talking about, and immediately think about a solution to this problem, while, most of the time, the woman simply wanted to share her feeling and be listened.
These things make it so that many women feel that men don't listen to them, which irritate them against men.
At the same time, many men feel that they actually listened, and that women just wish to whine and attract attention, which irritate them against women.
But it's, most of the time, simply due to how differently we do work.
