Worker Flavour Units

I think the problem with the searches is the term "modern". Ancient is an easy one, but everyone has different views of modern. To me modern would mean wearing a construction hat.

Nice unit Chuggi.

I uploaded a new nif with smaller hands, but the arms are still a little funny (nothing I can fix without completely redoing the rigging etc.) I don't think the angle of his arms is too noticable though.

Nice unit Chuggi.

Thanks! I think he is more of an industrial worker actually but there's only early, middle and late graphics for Civ IV - so this comes under late :D

I want to make start making some modern flavour workers because I don't think BtS will feature these. However, I can't find any decent pictures.. so can someone help me find some pics of any african/asian modern workers? Thanks!

As an idea for a modern african worker, how about taking the regular modern worker, put a rasta-head on it (like the zulu-warrior) and skin it so the unit appears to wear a denim-overall with bare arms/shoulders?

I thought sofar the civ graphic engine allowed only 2 different models for the same unit: ancient and modern? Or are you already talking about BtS?

Btw, chuggi, have you thought about "upgrading" the fishing boats -and nets in the game for the modern era?

Actually that was added in Warlords (note the Medieval Great General graphics).

On the 'more workers' front, I reckon that you could arrange the formations so that they didn't cross over.

Sounds ugly  Also I was looking in the database and Bakuel has already made a modern black guy, so it's ok.

I think the work boats already have modern graphics but I could see about making them more diverse :)

I despise coding of all kinds (including xml) so this could be left to seZ or one of the other regiments guys.

Ooh! Ooh! Pick me!
Zebra_9 released a little utility which I can put to use if you like. I would need some other worker graphics though :mischief:

I'll see what I can put together with just the one graphic (ie a group of Arabian workers)
I'll start with, say, 5?

Yeah that sounds cool. Maybe you could mix it up with the vanilla workers - like 3 of one and 2 of the other. It would also be easy for me just to change the colours of the Arabian worker so you would have another style.

It looks pretty good. I'm gonna spread them out a little, though.

First pic:

I'm working on a more interesting one ;)

Oh, and I think there's a problem with the arabian worker using worker animations. Should it be the fast worker animations?

EDIT: Showing a few animations:

Yes that one uses fast worker animations (it says on the download page).

Hmm the arab guys look ok however I think it does look a little crowded. It might be more suited with only three or four workers per group, also the formation is a little random. But it's more realistic than vanilla.

Woohoo! Randomness! Could you suggest something realistic? I had to make it up as you can tell!
And I added another screenie.

I'm not sure, the formation doesn't really fit in stylistically with all the other units in civ, and it's annoying how they're all facing the same way like that - and the animations are nearly all playing at the same time. I just don't think it's designed for more workers.... :( I'll have to have a good look at regiments for some ideas.
