Worker Flavour Units

Those are great! The pirate's fantastic!
Reckon you could convert some of those to 3D, Chuggi? Preferably the realistic ones first

If I had the models, yes, but I think civ 3 models are high-poly and I'm not sure if they use textures or materials.

Ha, the potential conversion of Civ III and Civ IV units has been discussed before, but it never got very far, because they're so fundamentally different. Civ III units do use textures and materials, but not skins in the same way as Civ IV units. Civ III units are fundamentally 2D graphics, although you usually create them with a 3D graphics program. That's why they can be as detailed as you like, because they are pre-rendered.

[Chugginator] I forgot you posted on my thread before - can't think how I didn't remember an avatar like that! I was thinking only yesterday that it would be fun to make an Ichigo unit.

Haha I only changed avatars recently! Ichigo would be cool with his huge-ass sword though.

I could try converting one of the workers if you could give me a link to a .max or .3ds version of the model along with the textures (I think the downloads only have the 2d part).

Yes, the download links I gave have only the completed unit, which consists of 2D animations. I can send you a 3ds version of one of the models without too much difficulty, if you want to see if a conversion is possible, so watch your PMs (I can't do it this minute...).

Chuggi, I actually meant creating 3D units similar to those. As Plotinus said, they're very different, and normally created in a program like Poser. Is that right?

I can try converting using a .3ds mesh, also my Germanic worker was based on Plotinus' Germanic worker niknak if that's what you meant.

@ Plotinus - Thanks, there's no rush.

Chuggi, I decided to make some buttons for you (I needed them for my mod :p). I'm missing two, but I'll post them later.

EDIT: Here's the other two

Thanks, they look good but they don't really fit in stylistically in my opinion (compared with vanilla buttons). The way I usually make buttons is by using a vanilla button to start of with and then modifying (rather than using screenshots).

Also I'm not sure whether or not you can have different eras for the button graphics (I think it just uses the one art file).

In BtS, the unit buttons are stored in Art_Defines_Unit, so it appears you can in BtS.

Ah, cool. (I remember reading that actually)

I'll try to show you what I meant about the button art before.

Too late  Your way is probably quicker, but I think mine suits civ more. I used the warrior button as a base because the head of my Germanic worker was based on the warrior's head.

May I just say 'yoink'? Reckon you could do that for the others?

I've made too many others though :( - One day I'll probably make buttons for all my flavour units (in one go). Maybe you could learn how to make buttons this way? You get better with practice.

I have BtS now and I have to say that some of the Ethnic units were a little disappointing (but there are some really great ones among them, so no worries). Also, there is no African diversity (Mali/Zulu use Arabian instead).

Anyway, about the workers. The Asian one is good except for the skin tone (too yellow) and the Native/Meso styled worker is good. The European one is just a re-skin of the original, so a little boring, and the Arab one is ok. It's suited for Babylon/Persia rather than Arabia so it should be useful though.

Here's a picture of all the ethnic workers :

Note: I may be biased because I made my own workers :mischief:
