Worker Flavour Units

No African diversity?! [pissed]
Oh well, good thing I made those black units first! How are the units form the Americas Chugginator? Are they Mesoamerica or North America or a bit of both? The only unit of that group that I ever saw was the swordsman that looked pretty good. Are they so awe inspiring I shouldn't make anymore mesoamerican units? I'm not asking for screenshots or anything, just what you think of the units.
On that Asian worker, I think his arms are the main problem. His head has some brown shading so the yellow isn’t so noticeable, but his arms are just yellow blobs. He could be good as a southern Chinese worker or a south asia worker.
I like your workers overall better, that European one looks ugly. It’s kinda sad actually, I expected better from the official units.:(

I would like to request a meso worker too! You could give him that shoulder/neck length hair they always give to Aztecs and Incas.

They are a bit of both, Meso and Native. There's a couple of units that resemble the scout (like the worker) and then there's a cool eagle warrior and something that looks like a crocadile warrior (or alligator) which is also good.

Note: I may be biased because I made my own workers :mischief:

No, you're not biassed. ;) Except for the european one all new ethnic workers in BtS are moderately to splendid.
Lucky you made such a wide variety of european -and african ones, it's like you knew beforehand there were missing links there. :p

Croc warriors?! That's awesome! :goodjob:The lack of African diversity is instantly forgiven in the face of such a cool idea. I'll have to spend the next week or so until I get BtS in deep meditation so the suspense won't kill me.

I had no idea! Although I never saw any African guys in the screenshots. I wonder why they never implemented the African ethnicity anyway, it's almost as if they're racist. Every culture but Africa..

I'd rather African diversity :) I can post a screenshot if you wanted though.

Well truth be known, now that the "face of the idea" is out my head I rather have african units too. :( The lack of African units is weird though. Think about it, they could of had rihno warriors! Oh well, there are plenty of African units in the database.
:D I would love to see a screenshot, no hurry of course. I'll be BtS less for a while.

Heres concept art for a Mesoamerican worker in case you needed it, its Plotinus Aztec Worker from Civ3

I'll make a Mongolian worker first (when I start making workers again, I'm still trying out BtS).

Is that a Firaxis unit?

Yep, this one ships with the expansion. :)

Anyway if the Native American(as in non-mesoamerican) units are lacking I have plenty of concept art for units). Do they have flavors for all the units or just a few?

The ancient/classical era footunits seem mosttimes diverse. Elephant, Horse archer look mosttimes to be one unit only for most/all of the civs.
But this is a quick overview from perhaps seeing 5-6 civs ingame. And I think you better keep your concept art ready, for NA's seem similar to the Meso's.

I like it! Are you playing with the Maya? Does this mean there are no ethic crossbowman or archers? Just how much diversity is there? I mean, they should of at least covered the Archer unit at the very least.

crossbows and archers (the latter especially) are early-era foot units. ;)

Like I said before, I was a bit disappointed. There is some more art in the folders that hasn't been put into the game, but it looks incomplete. I think they rushed to get it released in the late stages (merging the two scenarios together for example).

I can try converting using a .3ds mesh, also my Germanic worker was based on Plotinus' Germanic worker niknak if that's what you meant.

@ Plotinus - Thanks, there's no rush.

Actually, looking more carefully at Civ IV units, I don't think it'd work at all: partly because the models I used were far more detailed than Civ IV ones, and partly because I didn't use all-over skins like Civ IV ones, but just textures for various props and things where required. So even if they were 3ds I don't think it would work at all. I can PM you one if you like nevertheless, but I'm dubious!
