Worker Flavour Units

Actually, looking more carefully at Civ IV units, I don't think it'd work at all: partly because the models I used were far more detailed than Civ IV ones, and partly because I didn't use all-over skins like Civ IV ones, but just textures for various props and things where required. So even if they were 3ds I don't think it would work at all. I can PM you one if you like nevertheless, but I'm dubious!

I'm sure I could definitely get it to work. PM me one if you want to and I'll make it (but I doubt it will get any use as it would be too demanding with all the polys and multiple textures).

Heres what the Native American(non-mesoamerican) unit lineup should look like(Based on civ3 unit lineup but you get the picture) All its missing is a crossbowman.

Nice pictures but making flavour units for both Meso-America and Native America would be way too much work! Unless Bakuel wanted to, he makes stacks of units these days.

Here's a screenshot of Plotinus' Civ III prospector worker in Civ IV :

It's not perfect, but I managed to lower the poly count by a few ten thousand :wow: Also got rid of the beard and the bag to lower the polys a bit more. The point is that it works though :D

It can be re-boned to a worker (but it takes extra time).

It's actually really annoying converting them though because I have to retexture the parts that use materials (I only did a rough job on this one so if you can see that there's no shading on the legs). It'd take a lot longer to do the job properly so if I see any awesome models of yours that would look great in Civ IV, I'll do my best :)

Here's my first stab at your button method, Chuggi:

What do you think?

That's very good! My only suggestion would be to make the hair come down past his shoulders, other than that - perfect.

Look in the Credits section under "Ethnically Diverse Units" to see the artist list.

Thanks that awesome! I'll have to finish off the rest of the set now, so we need a:

  • Mongolian Worker
  • Meso-American Worker (or it could be the ancient worker for all Native/Meso and the Native worker could be for the medieval ages)
  • Medieval Indian/Ottoman Worker (thinking of using the elephant rider for a base)
  • Any other ancient/medieval/modern workers needed

So Firaxis didn't make any of them? that's lazy.. I did notice that they'd "borrowed" some of White Rabbit's art though (the Asian Settler). Also I'm guessing you did the programming for it (unless you have hidden artistic talent ;) ).

Do you know who made the Eagle Warrior? That one was ten times better than the Eagle Warrior I uploaded a while back (although I'm hoping I could rival it now :D).

EDIT : Also do you know why the African diversity wasn't included? White Rabbit's set from EDU would have been good enough.

Good idea! And perhaps the Khmer could have an adapted version of such an elephant worker. :goodjob:

I saw it. Even a brother of mine is included a bit further on the list. ;)

I did some more buttons. The Slavic one could use some work, and I don't know which units Chuggi based the Asian and Hellenistic on, but enjoy these 7 all the same!

The germanic one is Chuggi's, but I included it anyway. ;)

The Hellenistic worker head was the Great Engineers and the Asian head was the modern Great Scientists without the glasses. :)

I think the medieval Caucasian and the medieval African one could be improved with a sharpen modifier (as long as it's not overdone) but they both look great otherwise. The Arabian one is perfect I think and the Celtic one had red/orange hair but it still looks ok.

I forgot but I made a Slavic button the same time as I made the Germanic one  (it's based of the Germanic one) :

Also I found out that the [middle] and [late] era graphics don't for the buttons in BtS yet, but Impaler is working on a patch so hopefully they will after he releases it.

I'll include all the buttons in the first post once they're finished, NikNaks :)

The torso I used for the Hellenistic one is from the Prodromi unit (from Warlords) and the body for the modern Asian worker is the modern great scientists.

I'm not sure how to sharpen in GIMP (I use Photoshop) but I found this tutorial for GIMP. I wouldn't worry about it though because I had a look at the tutorial and it looks really long and boring.

Anyway basically all sharpening does is make the image clearer, not sure how else to explain it.
