Meant to include those which at least have a record/video :) Not really meant to be about those obscure death-metal bands with unplugged electric guitars in forests either ;)

Anyway, a favorite of mine for worst band ever, this punk group from the UK:

Pure genius...

Here is another horrible guitar band from the UK (90s this time)...:

Pitchshifter isn't that bad, I can't believe they're even on the radar when you've got bands like Nickleback and Kings of Leon running around.

As I keep being told over and over again by everyone I know, the worst band is Dream Theater.

They are likely too virtuoso-oriented, while most bands are centered in the rhythm/chord progression of the compositions :)

But i loved that other band you posted a while back, which also was progressive metal

Dream Theater isn't bad. They have nice tunes, sometimes. I like caught in a web and the ytse jam. Etc.

I don't understand the hate Dream Theater is receiving either. They are however not a great band they indeed do seem to do music for the sake of music itself, depriving all their songs of a context they could otherwise have.

KISS is a special brand of awful... but there's worse. There's bands like Helix. They're so terrible, it becomes intriguing to watch. Kind of like a bullet-train flying off the rails.

I just have to assume that people don't listen to much modern music. Try tuning your radio to one of the modern rock stations these days and you'll hear things way, WAY worse than Dream Theater, Led Zeppelin, or Joy Division. I'm not even a big fan of any of these bands but they're not even in the same terribleness league as some of the insipid pap that gets passed off as rock music. And that's without even bringing the entire galaxy of nu-metal and post-grunge into it.

to clarify, i wasn't suggesting joy division seriously.

Although they were still hugely better than the average winner of that contest ;)

Their outfits are so stupid and goofy that it's impossible to take them seriously even if they were legitimately good.

Brokencyde. Look it up on youtube yourself if you dare.

I can't listen to them because I'm in a public place but even their Wikipedia article generally agrees that they're trash.

I made it to the end of the video without difficulty, so I can't agree on that one. I've heard many that are worse. I wouldn't say this is great, but it isn't terrible. I will say, though, that I've never seen a band play in such elaborate costumes.

Oh, wow, that one's a good nomination. Started listening to their most popular song on Spotify, Freaxxx, made it to maybe a minute. Second-most popular, Get Crunk (the titles are pretty awful in general)... less than a minute. I Hate You sounds like a good one to try next. And... the music itself is more tolerable until half the words become non-suitable to a family-friendly-forum by about the 30 second mark. Yeah, this is a pretty solid nomination.

Fortunately, reading Wikipedia's "Critical reception" section provided sufficient comic relief to almost make up for the atrocious "music".

It's a toss-up between Radiohead and Led Zeppelin.

Radiohead is one of those bands that I've never been able to get the point of, despite having listened to occasionally due to friends who liked them. Among the mainstream bands mentioned thus far, they're the one I'd agree with the most. Led Zeppelin... meh. Take it or leave it for me.

I don't have any nominations of my own since I generally try to avoid music I don't like. And it's pretty subjective, anyway.
