As A Christian I disagree, but it does sadden me to see how many innocents are killed in the name of the Lord.

I'd say the religion has altered the course of history in such great a manner, that one can't really speculate what would have happened if it had never existed.

Enh. Humans love to kill each other; if we got rid of religion then we'd just start killing each other over skin colour or summat again. At least religion, in its most acceptable form, preaches compassion. I voted no.

Yes, but only slightly, as people will just find other stupid stuff to believe in and fight over.

Many people say religion founded the most basic morals and laws, but I kind of disagree since killing members of your own species or stealing from them is counter-productive and such people are much less likely to survive or receive help from the group as shown by nature itself.

True - but would the other stupid stuff be similar motivating ? Religous leader often promise a shiny afterlive for those who die in a battle for their religion.

True - and that's why my answer was yes. ;)

Apostle Paul gave up his religion so he may know Christ. As with the Law, there's nothing wrong with religion of itself, it's the human heart which is the problem. It's just that both Law and Religion (even one given by God to the Jews) can't solve this problem as Paul found out.

DAMN!!!

I voted for a wrong option again :wallbash:

Of course we'd be MUCH better off without religion. The only thing I cann agree on with Marx is that religion is like opium.

Some of the greatest works of art and music are inspired by religion, so I'd probably say "no".

No doubt about that, but I think that the mental degeneration and religious outweigh it.

Unfortunately, religion seems to be some sort of mental relief which evolved to allow the sentient, intelligent beings to cope with the death and the world around them in general.

You can't have a civilized society without politics, it's a necessary evil.
True.

But you can have civilized society without religion.
My first impulse is to agree with that, but since religion is so intimately interwoven with all of human history, I dont quite see how you could divorce the two. You can take the religion out of a human, but you cant take the religion out of humanity.

(without breaking it)

Yes, I tend to agree. I think it is not realistic to expect that humans ever give up on religion. At least until they become Gods themselves.
