I only visit the forums, so I had totally forgotten that the front page has popups. But as a regular visitor, I would probably be ready to donate $1 per month. $5 per month is definitely too much.

@ mabellino: what is the thing with PayPal? I must have missed that totally. I have an account, so of course I want to be sure it's safe.

I would donate something if you'd provide a way of doing it where I could participate. I have no credit card and I'm not American, so I guess there are some problems.

 that is $6.000 - $12.000 a year. That is quite a lot I think!

Anyway: If adverts are really annoying, I would be willing to pay, but so far only the electrical superstorms were.

I dont mind pop-ups at all, they just feel the wrath of my trigger happy Ctrl + W finger combo.

I dont have a credit card, even if i had one i wouldn't have the money to pay with, even if i had the money to pay with, i wouldn't :p

As most people have said, pop ups aren't much of a problem.

No, I don't have money for that sort of thing.
Benefits for doners? To me that sounds like making this a pay-site. Please don't make this a pay-site... I don't mind the ads, as long as it's free.

If this is only an add pop-up problem, just use a pop-up blocker.

Getting one and/or configurating your browser is probably easier than paying over internet (at least for underage, not rich or foreign people).

If this is to improve the site, this is another question.

No for me then, I happy with Webwasher.

No credit card here.
No money (broke from buying PTW).
I don’t mind the popup adds (even though it takes me a while to close them all).

If the three of those answers were the opposite of what they are, I would probably pay because that is the *only* site I most visit each day.

Now, I voted maybe, but...

Apologies if this has already been said, but isn't the simplest way of stopping the adverts just to close their window? That's what I do everytime and it is hardly a bother at all.

I wouldn't be averse to paying a small amount. The amounts suggested by Thunderfall earlier seemed reasonable. But I don't find the current level of popups to be a major problem.

Nope, I don't have the spare cash for that sort of thing, and anway the ads don't annoy me... thanks to Opera

I think that the last option is the best one, of people being able to get a pop up free version if they donate, and if not they put up with the pop ups. I don't like the idea of special priviledges for donating members.:)

I think we all need to know how much money is necessary to sustain the site without pop-up,

1- here an exemple, lets say we need 100 $ per month ( i dont have any idea if its close to reality or not)

2.- Draw a thermometer look like budget on front page to keep track on how we are doing, lets say for exemple we have already 75 $ so everyne know we need another 25 $ to break even.

3.- Once we see that we reach 100 $ then no more donation are necessary until next month.

Personaly i will be happy to make asmall contribution ( 10-20 $ year) if everyone do that then it mean a pretty good income.

Maybe the mod will want a salary, and you will have a strike.

WHAT? And miss out on the ELECTRICAL SUPERSTORMS!!

Seriously, aside from that one, the ads have never bothered me. I'd drop a few bucks in the hat when I have some to spare. Right now, a certain wedding is bleeding me dry.

But anyway, I don't mind the ads or the rare popup.

Even with the monthly payments I make for my Avatar you're still short on money?

@Hurricane - Paypal is safe. It is always secure when you use the 'payment' pages. Well, the pages are 'Secured' so take that for what it's worth.
