Regardless of wether your eligible or not, lets pretend you are.
Would you?
I sure as hell wouldnt, not even if they payed me $200,000 a year. At least not right now.
Going with that scenario/sentiment, first let's get the facts out of the way, and then proceed to 'what if'.
Facts:
I already served (USMC). And I'm not signing up again, unless career plans A-Y fail, and I'm stuck with plan Z.
What if scenario (if I were in your shoes) :
No - I wouldn't, either. Not right now. Pretty much same as you. Right now, the USAF is making huge cuts, to the point that they're actually transferring blue-suiters to the Army's branch of service (it's total unheard of crap!). So, getting into the USAF is not what it used to be. Always avoid joining employment in an organization that is downsizing. You come in as the new guy on the bottom... what 'great things' should you expect?
Navy - out of the question unless you get a contract guaranteeing your job, and duty location (a good NAS, not on a ship).
Army, Marines, including the respective Guard, and Reserves... one way ticket to Iraq (likely - probability is high anyway).
Air Guard... probably your best bet. That's actually my plan Z. But first, get a degree, and come in as an officer. Get whatever loans you need, and hopefully they'll help you repay them (the Army pays back up to like 65k, so I'm told by a coworker who did exactly that). -But Army is OUT of the question.
Coast Guard? Myeh... that's do-able. But, not ideal. You chances of getting a job in the Coast Guard that is dangerous, and/or you work your @ss off, is fairly high. -Might as well join the Navy.
On the plus side, though... they're paying outrageous sign-up bonuses. They're hungry to meet recruitment quotas, so the incentives are higher than I've ever seen. When I came in, in '97, I got practically nothin' compared to what they're offering now.
