So, I was working this morning, unloading some plants (about four tons worth!) with my partner from a large truck. Two other guys were taking down the plants we carried over the the edge for them (it was a very long truck and the plants were way in the back since we were the driver's third and last drop). Anyway, long story short, we had a super heavy tree we needed to pull forward and my partner asked one of our co-workers down below to give us a hand. With a grin he started clapping. I smiled a bit and then came up with a brilliant idea for a CFC thread.

So, anyway, would you rather someone applaud you (genuinely) or pray for you (genuinely)? Explain your answer!

EDIT : This was supposed to have a poll but the internet timed out, can mods add a poll?

Clapped for !!!! It will lift my spirits as either a joke like the OP ( one I do my self often) or as recognition of a job done well. Praying gets you nothing.

Clapping would mean I've done something good they admire me for. Praying would mean I've done something bad, or is in a bad situation which they would try and help me with.

Got to go with clapping then.

Well, clapping sure isn't going to help with anything, so I'd rather take prayer. At least there is a chance the prayer will be answered in the way I would like.

I'd rather be prayed for. My opinion of myself is inflated enough without being applauded.

God doesn't interfere with mundane matters. It also isn't the point of praying in the context of what we're talking about, which is a matter of expressing hope, not a matter of giving aid.

Clapped all the way! I hate it when people are like "Oh I'm Gonna' Pray For You!!!" It's ummmm... So? I Don't give a damn! Now clapping can really up lift your spirits realizing someone genuinly admires you for something you did just help so much with so many things:)

I was going to say clapping, definitely, but then I realized that, even though prayer has no actual impact, it does mean that whoever is praying for you cares about you. All clapping means is that someone thinks you did a good job; I can think someone does a good job without caring about them. I vote praying; I'd rather be cared about but talentless than talented but disliked.

I agree, but I had to pick between clapping and praying. Might as well go with the one that has a chance at least of affecting things.

Applause can effect you by inspiring confidence for later efforts! Prayer usually is done because of a risky situation - applause is by definition a positive force.

Wow. I never considered prayer anything but a positive force, ever. Odd that anyone would think of it as something other than that.

Prayer surely is a positive force too, of course, but it's often done in situations in which a positive force is needed; e.g. risky situations.

Besides, isn't it superior to do something completely by yourself and have people be proud of you as a result of that, rather than having to rely on people to give you emotional aid? That's ultimately the jist of what we're talking about.

Clapping, since it contains no implicit sense of morality....being clapped for a really bad joke, a really good put-down or an awesome yet slightly uncouth event is one of life's most satisfying results.
