I've lived twenty years doing what I think to benefit me most, I don't see why I wouldn't continue to do so.
So lets say its you or a 1000 other people, no matter what one of those two sets has to die, you or them... so what is the right thing to do in this case? And which would you do?
I ask what is the right thing to do because obviously the 1000 would think its right for you to sacrifice yourself for them, but is this true? Do you have an obligation to give up your life so 1000 others may live? Or is it not wrong for you to live and let them die? Who is your primary moral obligation to? What benefits yourself or whats the good for humanity as a whole?\
P.S there are no 'special' people in that 1000 group, no one you know, love, care about, are closely related to, etc. etc. Just 1000 everyday people, good people too, women, men, children, but still strangers.
I need a good example. I can't really vote without a good example.
What kind of situation? Is there a building about to explode and a gunman has a gun to your head? What? I can't make up an example, as I don't really get the idea. Don't try to explain it to me with layman terms, make an example
Really what it comes down to.
This all depends on what is happening at the time. If some guy says to you: "If you don't kill yourself right now I'm going to kill 1,000 of the craziest rapists in the world, who haven't been caught yet", then the choice is clear.
In other cases, not so clear.
The guy is going to kill 1000 innocent, happy, hardworking, honest, fun, normal, good, whatever, women and children, cute babies, kids, and guys as well, and NO, there are no SELECT FEW that you KNOW or CARE ABOUT in the group. Unless you care about all humans everywhere that you dont even know.
