Wow... Just wow. Its shocking how much things change.

First post in Civ4 sections.

Hi. n00b to the forum and BtS, long time Civ player and had 4 vanilla since it's release. I've only on my second (near the end) game of BtS playing Monarch level and Brennus of the Celts. This game will be a Domination victory, and in fact way to easy of one. I'm only finishing the game to get familiar with all the new stuff. My first game was also a domination victory at the same level playing the Greeks. That game was fun and challenging.

One thing if you want a domination victory, use the Terra map type. that puts all your starting civs on one continent that is large enough so that if you concur it, game over. you don't need to deal with the other continent at all, and are better off not bothering. It also means that a lot of civs are crowded together and you have a hard time expanding without war.

In this game, I attacked the Greeks while they were fighting the Indians, early enough so that the i was mostly using Galic Warriors (or whatever they're called, swordsmen) against archers for defense. I got fuedelism before it was over and took out enough of their core cites to force them into vassalage. I didn't have more than a couple catapults and had a few war elephants, but i brought a very big army.

BtS seems better to me at sending as much as it can to defend early battles rather than holding everything back. It's not perfect at that, but you aren't going to win early battles without big numbers of attackers. Count on AI civs doubling or more the number of defenders that you can see in early battles before espionage gives you a clear picture of what they have the ability to redeploy.

If the attackers and defenders are within 20% or so of ability, then you can always win with big numbers instead of better units. And never launch a city attack you don't have the numbers to carry through. They'll only get stronger. So plan on enough attacking units so that you don't run out of steam before the "refuses to talk" ends and you can make a cease fire if it goes bad.

Also, know when to break off, and conserve your good units for later. Take bite sized pieces of your enemies instead of going for total victory unless you are overwhelmingly stronger.

First OT post a month or so later.

It's about time. But it won't be without problems.

Anything south of Monterey ain't my problem :smoke:

Also, I finally figured out, while being one of the most helpful civ3 posters for a period in 2003, why I was not made a moderator and moonsinger out of the blue was. My posts were incomprehensibly laden with typos and made up idioms that only I understood. I was probably never in the running :p Reading my old posts is painful, not because I was saying dumb things (though that happened), but because I had no ability to type properly.

Ah, this is interesting. My first post in OT wasn't even my post. It was my ex-girlfriend so it's something else I can blame her for. I have to admit her California secession comments are pretty classic but I'm not sure I could improve on my last sentence. :)

I vote for joining on with Canada if they will have us..
This tells me that Whomp's ex-girlfriend has something in common with Canada's Peter MacKay (our Minister of National Defence): they're both geographically challenged. :mischief:

I don't even remember what my first OT thread was about, or when I made it. I don't make new threads here very often.

I clearly remember my first post was in the Civ4 C&C where I was reviving a thread about a Dune Mod.

I'm not sure she cared about borders as much as political alignment. From her perspective, Washington and Oregon would just follow California's lead. Kick out the Inland Empire and Calgary and it would be a merger made to order.

Let me help you.
Somebody told me this one (it's REALLY bad Latin, and makes no sense if you use proper pronunciation, but it's funny to read):

"Veni, vidi, VISA": "I came, I saw, I shopped." (or you could use "bought" in place of "shopped")

My first post in 2003 was a total troll-job. I was feigning outrage over the inclusion of tobacco in C3C. It was a fun thread, but would be locked in a heartbeat were it made today..

I am outraged by the inclusion of tobacco in Conquests.

I am both offended and sickened. My grandfather, aunt, a cousin and 2 uncles all died of lung cancer within the last 15 years. Is this the message we're trying to send to our children? Buying them this game would be like handing them a pack of cigarettes and saying, "light up, Billy!" How about making the 'Cure for Cancer' wonder give +100,000 happiness to all civs possessing tobacco? I demand the surgeon generals warning be printed on 40% the surface area of the pack. I love my children.

This is completely sarcastic if you can't tell. Thank you, Firaxis, for smooth, refreshing tobacco.

Now, there's another plant you need to include...

My first OT post was a response to this thread, as was my third. My second was a post about Star Wars, posting widely known basic information about the Death Star in a Revenge of the Sith movie release thread. I then got into an argument about how the Confederate flag stands for racism and treason. Some things never change.

My first CFC post was a semi-nonsensical one in an argument about how much the Fascism government sucked in C3C. A few threads later, I mentioned how awesome I thought Perikles was and how crappy I thought Ioustinianos I was. (Some things do change. Radically.) 14-year old Dachs, ladies and gentlemen!

I have to admit, one area where you have gone downhill is your love affair with the letter K.

Psh, I'm not even consistent with my semioffensive transliterations

Were you still a Chrisitan back when you first joined?

Yes, but I was already on my way to leaving the faith by the time I joined here as my moral objections to the Bible were surfacing after many years of being suppressed. I just didn't realize what was happening until recently. I stopped trying to delude myself late last year.

And, how do those posts compare with my early posts? Better, worse, or similar?

Your posts were always much longer than mine and I was much more open to correction on issues. In fairness to you, I am several years older and more educated.

Inspired by this thread, I've dug up one of my first posts in off-topic (ok, I might have done some cherry picking, it was my fifth post in OT). Posted in thread "Will America Ever Regain It's Reputation?" in Dec 13, 2007:

Hehehe said:
Well I still like America, but it seems it is kind of fashionable to hate America. Maybe this will change when America gets a new president, stops torturing prisoners and whatever disputes between Europe and America are solved.

In my opinion, America is great as a superpower. Ok they've done their mistakes, but would you people rather have communist China as the only superpower? Attacking Iraq might be bad but I don't think Chinese would be much better if China was the only superpower.

Looking back at this post, I was pretty much right, and IMO everything I said is still true to this day.

Still, I guess in 4 years my posts have matured somewhat and my language skills have improved a bit so I'll give myself a six (posting has improved a little).

well I finally went back and looked at my first post:

Hello all, have been downloading mods from the site for a while now, but haven't posted yet. I finally managed to fix my MAF problem, and am now able to enjoy a ROM2 game without it crashing every half hour.
in the welcome thread.

My second post was a thread-starter, in the all other games section:
As some of us undoubtedly know, the next update of the FM series, imaginatively titled Football Manager 2010, is coming out at the end of October. Having downloaded the demo for Championship Manager 2010 and found it utterly Big Rigs :Over the Road, to my sorrow, I am living in hope that the FM team at SI will pull of the big one this year.

FM 09 was a good game but as it introduced a load of new details it was a bit lacking by FM standards (though that doesn't stop me playing it almost non-stop), so a big release is what I'm hoping for this year.

So for me I'd have to say I've improved by -4.

I just keep getting better :smug:

Show us some old posts, Abbadon! From back when you still had a different name! Or names!

I shouldn't have been granted access to the internet as a sophmore in highschool. My posts vaguely resembled the nonsense found on youtube comments, yet slightly more grammatically correct.
