WTC Mosque Part Four!!!

How about simply interpreting the acts of the followers of said religion?

I dont think thats unfair, do you?

In all fairness, the acts of islamic terrorism, and cruelty to women far, far, FAR, outpace any issues the catholics have had with pedophile priests.

All you gotta do to realize that is watch the daily news or read a paper.

The daily news is horse puckey. They write what entertains, focusing on drama and violence and in the process creating false images. Television is in no way an accurate representation of the world. It is idle amusement.

I've seen Protestant Christians kill abortion doctors and rally against homosexuality, does that therefore mean christianity and protestants have an inherent desire to repress homosexuals and kill abortion doctors? Because by applying terrorism to Islam, you are essentially doing exactly this.

What's your point? Both are just as dispacable, disgusting and life altering. Christianity isn't known for it's incredibly good treatment of women, Mob, especially catholicism.

The news, which is eager to equate Muslims and Islam to terrorism, when the reality is that most (despite being failures) terrorist acts are actually committed by eco-terrorists, not Muslims.

I've seen Protestant Christians kill abortion doctors

You mean you've read about it.

Exactly how many times has this happened in the last 20 years?

Care to answer the question?

Now compare that number to the number of terrorist attacks by muslims over the last 20 years.

Now give me the ratio you find.

The news, which is eager to equate Muslims and Islam to terrorism

Its not 'eager' to, its just that the news recognizes the fact that the vast majority of terrorist attacks done worldwide are indeed done by muslims.

Some years back, there was a muslim, an egyptian I think (I could be wrong) who lamented in a media piece (and I paraphrase): 'its true that not all muslims are terrorists, but its also true that most terrorists are muslims'.

To ignore that fact is to ignore the issues surrounding radical and fanatical islamic believers.

when the reality is that most (despite being failures) terrorist acts are actually committed by eco-terrorists, not Muslims.

Really? Proof please.

It's a sad state of affairs when Muslims need to convince America that they aren't going to take over and turn America into some sort of Islamic terrorist state.

You're aware that Christian anti-abortion terrorism far outstrips Muslim terrorism within the US, right?

It is important to not narrowly define "terrorism" in order to mainly include the group that you're seeking to indict. This is the same trap that people fall into when talking about 'honor killings'; they forget that a great deal of domestic violence is 'honor based', but ignore the parts that involve the culture we're familiar with.

You're aware that Christian anti-abortion terrorism far outstrips Muslim terrorism within the US, right?

No, I am not aware of that, and would definitely like to see your proofs.

Although I strongly suspect you will roll out figures from decades upon decades ago to try and legitimize your point, or sufficiently move goalposts to include incidents that werent really 'terrorism'. How about keeping it fairly recent...say the last 30 years or so, and keeping it to significant events, i.e. bombings or specific murders that would qualify as terrorism or terroristic in nature. Also, dont forget to add in attacks that occurred outside the USA but still against American citizens or american targets.

Does it still outstrip it?

Typical Christian trying to downplay anti-abortion terrorism :shake: They just don't do enough to condemn it.

However, people are being unfair wrt the abortion terrorism. There is nothing in Christianity that encourages followers to: a) believe that fetuses deserve protection (it's merely something added onto the faith by societal convention) or b) to use violence to protect babies from harm. Even if the bomber is Christian, his actions are not based on anything that's in Christianity.

Can't help wondering how many of those American terrorists thought they were OK to commit terrorism because Christianity condemns the victims.

You mean you've read about it.

Exactly how many times has this happened in the last 20 years?

Care to answer the question?

Now compare that number to the number of terrorist attacks by muslims over the last 20 years.

Now give me the ratio you find.
In Texas over the past 20 years, there have been numerous examples of Christian women murdering their own children. It is safer to be the child of a Muslim woman here.

Can't help wondering how many of those American terrorists thought they were OK to commit terrorism because Christianity condemns the victims.

wouldnt be surprised if certain posters, say oh but thats not terrorism, but heres 1 of the definitions of terrorism The deliberate commission of an act of violence to create an emotional response through the suffering of the victims in the furtherance of a political or social agenda

hate crimes do fit that definition

Guys, this is about a mosque, not Shariah.

it has always been about sharia for me because of the imam

from previous post.....

"actually, i'm beginning to think he is either an extremely naive idealist, who actually believes that if we bargain with the "political" side of terrorist organizations,we could just convince "Muslim countries... to revise the penal code so that it is responsive to modern realities and to ensure that the balance between the three branches of government is not out of kilter" or as mentioned previously, a dirty hypocrite, personally, i dont know which is more dangerous, i tend to still believe the latter, given that he is talking about building brides, bla bla, pretending to be friends with rabbis, while calling for negotiations with an organization whose charter calls for the destruction of israel."

Those who think Muslims all want Shariah are incredibly naive. Shariah law isn't neccessarily stoning women or gays to death, it's also living by a certain religious laws. I admit, i am ignorant of such laws, but that does not mean that Muslims would go around in death/rape squads to do "horrible things" to the non-believers. Since when did Christians in America stone people for wearing two different types of cloth? Why would you expect moderate Muslims to follow their own version of idiotic rules?.

i support muslims in america against sharia law

People need to get away from this idea that Islam is somehow a crueller religion then others, because it all depends on how someone interprets and acts upon their religious beliefs. One could argue that if Islam was really more pre-disposed to terrorism and violent acts, given recent events, one could also argue that Catholicism instills pedophilic teachings and intent into various people. Of course i have no evidence for this, but neither do those who believe Islam and Muslims are inherently more susceptible to terrorism and terrorist acts.

if a group of pedophiles crashed two planes into the twin towers in the name of christianity, i would be against building a new christian chuch at the prposed site....

Actually, I've noticed that any spin can be given by those who oppose the mosque. There's no real point in debate once you've shown that your political opponent actually has no consistent opinion and is merely trying to rationalise their conclusion.

People implicitly want to oppress Muslim freedoms and are xenophobic towards Islam. The rest is just window dressing.

i dont generaly speak for others...my opinion has always been consistent

Of course. The same can be said for Christian Law. I just read an article in the paper about how the vast majority of American Muslims simply ignore large parts of the Sharia law for two main reasons:
1. Different sects have their own beliefs of what sources should be used and whose opinion is more important.
2. It is fiendishly complicated to understand. If a Priest started preaching to his congregation the opinions of Augustine, ancient Canon Law, and latin grammar, his congregation would leave out of boredom. That is similar to what teaching Sharia law heavily would be..

see above note of muslims against sharia law

if a group of augustinian preists crashed 2 planes into the twin towers in the name of christianity, i would be against building a new christian chuch at the prposed site....

The same thing can happen in Christianity. Remember the Hutaree Militia back in Michigan?.

if a group of hutarees crashed 2 planes into the twin towers in the name of christianity, i would be against building a new christian chuch at the prposed site....

Mainly because the 'good' Muslims are law abiding citizens who don't want to make a fuss.

i was going to quote something about apathy being worse than evil but there were to many quotes to choose from

How about one which details the difficulties faced by a marginalised social group in contradicting an established media narrative and the dissproportioante challenges they face in making themselves heard? Any quotes for that? :mischief:

Are you suggesting that Al Qaeda are a marginalised social group? Or are you conflating all American Muslims- including those who died on 9/11 and those who were involved in the rescued effort- with Al Qaeda? Have you no shame whatsoever?

(Also, it's quite clear that you haven't the faintest idea what the phrase "established media narrative" meant.)

In Texas over the past 20 years, there have been numerous examples of Christian women murdering their own children. It is safer to be the child of a Muslim woman here.
When will the honor killings stop? Why do they insist on bringing their own form of Sharia law to the US?

do they think they are?.....does the imam think they r?

dont believe in giving emotions any importance when it comes to making "rational" decisions :lol::lol::lol:

well, if u think so, why dont u enlighten me?

I don't think anyone would call a Middle Eastern terrorist organisation an "American social group".

Let's just say that I'm a little sick of the disrespect being consistently shown by the local Islamophobes. Regardless of your views on the mosque, accusing American Muslims of being complicit in the attacks is just disgusting.

well, if u think so, why dont u enlighten me?
It's fairly self-explanatory, but if you insist: the Western media has adopted a particular narrative in regards to the War on Terror, one which treats any and all Muslims with suspicion. As such, it is difficult for moderate Muslims to break through this uniformity and voice their opposition to terrorism- look at how frequently this Imam's vocal opposition to terror has been overlooked.

look at how frequently this Imam's vocal opposition to terror has been overlooked.
That has to be viewed as being a quite deliberate propaganda campaign by the far-right. The only way it could be clearer would be if the Imam Rauf renounced Islam, converted to Judaism, and became a member of the Likud Party after moving to Israel. After all, everybody knows that is the quintessential non-terrorist.

I heard a rumor that some people are planning to slaughter a pig at the proposed site to prevent Muslims from building there. Any confirmation/source? Sorry, I'm not as much of a news/political junkie anymore.
