X-Men: First Class

It was a pretty good movie.

I liked the movie, but found the continuity issues significant to the point of distraction. And while I smiled at the Wolverine cameo, it also made me cringe, because it never happened and slapped the first X-Man movie in the face continuity wise. Also, I thought in the first X-Man movie it was stated that Cerebro was built by Professor X and Magneto, but this movie indicates that Hank McCoy built it - and apparently McCoy is such a super-genius that he built everything...even their modified SR-71 Blackbird. Oh well.

I did like the Magneto back-story, and appreciated the time they took telling it. By far the most complex and interesting character in the film. I also didnt mind Shaw either, and thought Kevin Bacon did a pretty good job as the bad guy here.

Liked the movie, but would have liked it more had it been consistent with the other movies and messed with the canon less.

i guess that's why they had to label it a reboot.

IMO since they're planning on doing a sequel I believe, I could of done with Xavier not getting paralyzed till later on because he's so bad ass just walking around like that.

Saw it recently and like it. The chemistry between Charles and Erik was very well done and, overall, the action, dialogues and special effects were very well executed.

That said, I have a few issues. First of all, outside the main characters (Charles, Erik, Shaw), most of the mutants were bland or underused. Mystique got some good screentime but Beast didn't have much to do. The others were not really interesting, you could pretty much swap all of them without changing anything in the story.

The second problem was the pacing at the end. Especially concerning Magneto. During all the movie, he's portrayed has a tortured soul who's is obssessed with killing Shaw. Then, suddenly, he become what essentially Shaw wanted to be: the leader of the mutant revolution. That was way too sudden and I would have wish they would hold out for the next movie where we could have witness a slow but steady rift between Charles and Erik. Remember the scene where they are both in the van and Charles manage to trick the soldiers into beleiving it's empty? After he succeed Erik give him a good tap on the leg. That was a cool scene, I wanted more of that but no, in the next movie, Xavier and Magneto will be enemies and if they end up working together it won't be like in this one. Too bad.

I fail to see how this is an error. Wolverine will have his memory erased between this and the next movie. As for Charles and Erik, they didn't even see his face and even if they remember that 40 years ago, some dude told them to fudgoff in a bar, I don't think it would change their behavior toward him.

As for Cerebro, Magneto could very well help Charles built the one in the mansion, we'll see in the next movie.

I do agree that they made McCoy a little bit too smart in this one, creating Cerebro and the Blackbird and the suit and the serum (ok that one fail but still).

Well yeah, I wouldn't have mind if he would start seeing the world like Shaw at the end, setting the stage for his gradual shift in the next movie. But he didn't just accept the fact that Shaw is his creator, he took over and declare war against humanity. That's pretty fast considering he was just beginning to master his powers.

Nah, but it was pretty good. I liked it. I did feel everything about the blackbird was rather silly (including the crash on the beach). It was fully unnecessary to have professor x hold magneto in the whirlwind--just a case of stupid action-movie over-the-topness imo.

I also find some of the mutants laughably bad, namely Darwin (the "adapt to survive" guy). His ability is basically exactly the same as the main villain ("absorb energy") but he doesn't get to do anything with it.

Whenever super-power movies have two characters who "have-the-exact-same-ability-yet-one-is-clearly-unequivocally-better" I just get a chuckle.
