Today the demo for Firaxis' upcoming turn based strategy title XCOM: Enemy Unknown has been released.
The demo can be found on Steam, requires a Steam account, Windows Vista and 5.5 GB free hard drive space.

It should also be mentioned that there is still the possibility to get Civ5 for free (also as giftable copy) if you preorder XCOM now, and the number of preorders hit a certain threshold. There are a bit more than 2 weeks left, and the way to Civ5 is already to 50% done :).

For everyone who wants to talk about XCOM, you can find our thread here.

Thanks to Gyathaar, Rubin and Grifftavian for this news hint :).

Been waiting nearly 20 years for a decent remake of this game :)

Tried the demo, found the controls rather cumbersome to start, but started to get the hang of them just as the demo ended. Graphics and gameplay seem very good, interface seems tricky (again maybe just needs getting used to like the controls).

Like the original it seems get too overconfident and start moving forward too quickly and not bothering to use 'OverWatch' is a good way to get your squad annihilated

And they have kept:
Chryssalids

Scariest alien in the original game.....

I'm digging this Necron-esque gauss gun thingy. But is it true that the demo is only one part of a 4-mission tutorial?

I hadn't heard that before, but it may be true. In the Demo, after you complete the first scripted mission, you promote the lone survivor from Rookie to Squadie. In the other mission of the Demo, this same soldier in a Corporal leading 3 Squadies, so it may be possible that there are two other tutorial missions that they didn't release as part of the Demo.
