Neither of the previous two seemed to encompass the whole range of political views accurately, so here is my best attempt.

Political magpie - I steal things here and there, carry them to my nest for re-evaluation and discard everything I eventually don't like, leaving me with a lots of different shiny things :D

So I had to vote Independent ;)

I'm a socialist, just not in the traditional university student-style, uber-activist kind of way. As in, I don't see history as a litany of social evil, and don't much care for the rest of the working-class, but mostly like the socialist ideal.

Every political test I take tells me I'm authoritarian. Hmmm, maybe I'm just a fascist in denial.

I'm on the moderate wing of the Democratic party.

Socialists and Republicans are both equally as scary to me. I probably lean in further with libertarians, but they take a good idea to the extreme.

I said Independent.

Take a Republican, add a heavy dose of Libertarian, with just a pinch (and I do mean that) of conservative Democrat, and you'll get some idea of my political views.

I am not officially registered republican at the moment, but I have been in the past. I voted for Howard Phillips in 2000, of the Constitution party, which I registered with. But for this poll I answered republican because I do really like Alan Keyes and Gary Bauer, and I think Bush is doing a good job with the war on terrorism. He really rose to the occasion. However, he is not has aggressive as I think he needs to be with pro life and opposing the militant gay rights agenda that is bent on destroying the sanctity of marriage, and the american family values.

Pffffttt.

I can think of more pressing candidates for the title of 'destroyer of the sanctity of marriage.'

The words "Divorce rate" spring to mind.

Don't blame homosexuals for people refusing to take marriage seriously.

Try and address the problem seriosuly instead of finding a whipping boy for it.

Also, how is the gay rights movement 'militant?'

P.S, I voted 'socialist'.

I thought mine was the be all and end all of political polls. It had loads more options that were more specific (Communist and Fascist to name but 2 that aren't here), and out of 47 votes, only 1 was none of the above.

I don't fit easily on the scale, and do concur with Sixchan that this is slightly lacking.
Having said that, I will go as "Independent", as one will observe the courtesy of choosing an option. Ultra right wing authoritarian on many, many issues, but do have some interesting divergences from a traditional fascist line ;)

I believe in the sanctity of marriage, and in the relevance of family values, but I would not paint the situation as being massively threatened by "the militant gay rights agenda". If this refers to being against gay marriage, then I can see that point, and do concur, but the whole of the gay rights agenda, or homosexual population cannot be characterized as militant. The threats to good values come from a variety of sources, such as the various odious postmodern projects of some extremists.

I didn't mean to attack your poll; yours certainly had more options. I just wanted a poll based on US political parties. ONe problem I saw with a previous poll was that there were "liberal" and "conservative" choices as well as political parties that fit under these broad agendas, i.e. "socialist" fitting under liberal and "fascist" fitting under conservative. My poll forces the user to choose which political party they most identify with. I am not saying it is any more or less effective than previous polls.

BTW I voted Democrat although in reality I am split between democrats and greens.

Just to comment on the poll, I am quite surprised at the high number of socialists here!!!

And for the record, I did not include communist as an option because it is so closely related with socialism. I did not include fascist because this party seems to have died out. Those who did not agree with any of the parties I listed could choose the best one, or choose "independent" and explain where they stand.

If we are asking which American political party one would identify with, I would go for the Republican Party, as I am a firm believer in "it is better to be inside, rather than out", and that the major parties are the only ones with a realistic opportunity to execute policy.
I would not agree with a lot of its policy and ideology, but it is the only true contender from the right, and they teach us proper loyalty in the ALP. :D

Crazy Americans :crazyeye:

In my country, socialism is the opposite of liberalism :D

and although I vote for our fascist party, I'd rather not vote than vote for the conservatives

This poll has way too many problems to work right. I voted Republican, even though I am much more conservative than they are.

Why is Fundamentalist an option?? What does that have to do with politics?
